1) the high price of a 1st party controller. a controller = 1 brand new game almost
2) not everyone likes the "feel" of the 1st party controller (i dont mind it)
3) 3rd party controllers have come a long way from the plastic grip, useless fans and led lights from last gen. some are still hella ugly and uncomfortable but...you know.

i think the MS crew knew they had botched up their image a lot by force feeding so much casual crap for kinect during e3/germany show, so they had to bring out something to shut up the most vocal haters.
they havent given full details yet. and so far its one game using both controllers and kinect. probably will not be the last.
