I'd wager that the people on this webpage are the hardest of the hardcore in terms of gaming, and if only a fraction of us have 4k, that says something.
"depending on the size" are the key words there.
The big ones are still prohibitively expensive. And I see no reason whatsoever to get one unless it is big, or unless you sit awfully close.
I have a 65" TV now, and I don't intend to upgrade to a 4k unless it is at least 75". There is no reason to, especially considering the dearth of content that takes advantage of it.

VR will not exist on consoles within 5 years.
It will be kept alive on PC by people modding things and with indie games, but the mass market appeal is not there to justify it in the console space.
Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not perfect, but that's what I believe. I'm not here to change anyone's mind, just trying to point out the other side for those that are blinded by their own love for the product.
