Looks like they are using the the L1 and L2 cache as a secondary page buffer gate instead, probably to reduce semaphore wait time, except on the GPU L2 cache stream which operates on a lock or mutex to bypass writebacks

@MysticStrummer - I not know much about the GPU of either system, but regardless you cannot have interrupts between cycles, the CPU will always have a larger pointer footprint in the cache which the concurrency control on the memory controller will have to pass more times than the GPU.
