every generation has its fanboys and loyal customers, that will never change. what has changed is the market and that market has a lot more competition than ever before. things can change at any moment. most consumers dont get as involved with all the theatrics that go on behind the scene within the forums.
why is spending $500 a massive gamble? spending thousands of dollars on the stock market is a massive gamble. lets put things into perspective. we know the xbone will have lots of games and thanks to the public and media the xbone is looking better and its not even out yet. a bit of a gamble is buying a product and then having it change a bunch of policies after.

the same can be said about many products. feedback can be a great tool. look at the rrod situation on the x360. the public and media forces m$ to do good for consumers. they made a better product after and had a 3 year warranty on older systems. look at the ps4, sony managed to get the price down, make the system easier for game developers. both are good news for consumers.

major nelson continually tweets updates and the xbox site shows the status of xbox live at any time along with updates as well. m$ does a good job keeping gamers updated and they usually fix problems promptly.
plus has free old games and some fairly new games. when plus started the games were not that great, its gotten much better over time and on the vita there are some really good games for free.
the problem with xbox gold is most things need gold even netflix. im glad sony is putting pressure on m$ to give more value out of gold.

if i play a game and i die, then restart from where i left off again and the same scripted sequences occur that isn't next generation gaming to me. i dont want the same experience over and over again.
you won't be able to share everything on the ps4 that you record. developers including sony may block some footage from being shared. we dont know if those same restrictions will apply on the xbone
they can recover. have realistic sales expectations, have a manageable budget and start making indie style games to create new intellectual properties. that will take some of the risk away if they are smaller games
for big japanese aaa games like final fantasy have them on nintendo and sony platforms only. stop wasting time on the xbox when the demand isn't there. for other games like tomb raider yes, it makes sense.
they should make it exclusive to the ps4 and have sony produce it.

does anybody know if you can voice chat with multiple people on your friends list at any time? the commercial showed one person on voice chat while you text to others. i want to be able to party chat, i cant stand doing text on a controller.

so is ferrari when compared to corvette zr1. would ferrari drop the price by 50% in order to compete against the zr1? no but sony knows its closest rival has been the xbox360 and they were forced to continue to drop the price to remain competitive. m$ didn't have as many price drops and was making money on the hardware much sooner. now m$ faces the same challenge with the xbone compared to the ps4.

it also took them 4 years to turn a profit and the xbox360 is only a $100 cheaper than when it was released 8 years ago while the ps3 dropped in price by 50%.

$500 isn't a lot of money. one game alone can cost $60, add that up over time. sure it's quite a bit of money for some people but to say it's a massive gamble is silly. what massive gamble are we even talking about?
