This case is the same with the recent ESPN headline about Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks, when the headline said "Chink in the Armor"
Chink is a racial slang for Chinese but the headline was really trying to say Kink and got things mixed up (which usually is the case) but even though it was just a mistake and was never intended to be anything racist, someone got fired for it.

All I can say is never underestimate the Big N. This generation has proven that not only once (Wii) but twice now (3DS).
Why am I not surprise to see a negative article about the Wii U... the 3DS got it, the PS Vita is getting it and now I guess its the Wii U's turn. My goodness...

That's the thing this price issue wasn't started by the gamers but by the media at $250 there was little complaint about the price of the 3DS from gamers, even when it was revealed that it only took $101 to make.
The real issue for the 3DS was the lack of 2nd analog controller and lack of games after the launch and not the price.

I think Sony will try to get more PS Vita games and apps out to entice buyers before they resort to any price drop.
Besides if Sony can weather the expected low sales and reach the holidays then they can use the special discounts as their temporary price drop for the year.
For me a price drop is too early when the games/apps that can attract a specific buyer are yet to become available.
If everything else fails then they can do the price drop...
Oh man I can relate to what your saying.
My family is a conservative bunch and I was like the only one who constantly play games. My mom, aunt and grandma even said that games are the work of the devil that it corrupts you and makes you lazy and stuff. lol!
But now they spend more time playing on their iPads than I do on my consoles.
Now I can go up to them with a huge smile on my face and say, "work of the devil huh?" lol!

I agree with you that a dedicated gaming device does not need to be a phone but if we look at it, its kind of the logical step forward.
It may not even resemble a smartphone but it may come with an app or something that allows you to make direct calls without the need to register to something like Skype.
I highly think its a plausible. Will Sony do it remains to be seen.

The price point issue is really getting old as well because its traditional for console prices to go down eventually. So I could never really see this point because people can wait before buying.
After all the Vita is a WANT and not a NEED like a smartphone.

I'd be dead happy if Sega brings a localize VC3 over to the Vita, so the English speaking fans can finally play it.
The Vita definitely need more apps. The more there is, the more justifiable the purchase overall.
Only we don't have an English version in Asia yet... must wait for the NA release~

Nothing wrong with being frugal. Vita is a WANT after all and not a NEED, always prioritize what you need first. :)
Besides I almost went this route myself, then my hands overpowered my wallet when I saw the Vita with Uncharted:GA on the shelf. lol!
