This is a really fun list! =)
I was one of the people (one of many from what I read) who loved the more-so cartoonish look of Overstrike before they changed everything. That's not to say that Overstrike wouldn't have simply turned out just like Fuse in regards to gameplay, but I dunno, back then it at least looked to have have that Insomniac charm. You're right, they need to put this behind them and move on. Please don't beat us over the heads with something that sadly didn't work out as planned. =/
I wonder if we'll ever get the inside scoop on what went wrong with the development of Fuse, or if Ted Price and Co. will forever remain in denial about having crafted their first very "meh" title. I'm sure many will say that "EA" is what went wrong, but it's gotta be more than that, no?
I can agree to that. Personally I'm hoping it does in fact have some Dragon's Dogma blood in its veins. If not, cheers to a completely new IP then. =)
On a slight side-note (and I'm not trying to needlessly stir things up), while I think the WiiU has some brilliant potential, the thing about it that frustrates me, is that for the most part, technologically, it's preventing developers to move forward with a lot of their ideas. Sure they can get creative with the second screen (much like they can on the 3DS), but power-wise it's asking them to deal with the same hardware limitations many of them have already dealt with for the pas...
Xbox One, PS4-- it's all win-win. =)
Anybody think we'll see the "triple-A" titles go from 2-3 year development cycles, to more-so 4-5 year cycles on average (due to the amount of detail and scale they'll perhaps be pumping into their productions)? It's going to be interesting to see how everything pans/plays out over the coming years.
I love everything about this game (ok, except for some of the pointlessly bs fetch quests) and wish more people would give it a chance. Ya know, sink more than one or two hours into it before saying, "meh". It's got amazing music, great characters, tons of gameplay variety, some of best combat ever (especially when you gain some of the later spells in the game), a deep and meaningful plot, serious replay value, and some of the most badass cutscenes ever outside of, say, a MGS ti...
Perhaps living in LA a few years has desensitized me a bit, but sheesh, some people need to lighten up. <3 Mega 64.
Speaking of 4-player co-op action games... Anyone remember Brute Force on the original Xbox?
Binary Domain-- sooo good! Though I know I'm not the only person who played it, sometimes it feels that way. The game starts out kind of cliche and the characters are presented as generic/predictable stereotypes; and therefore when they begin *gasp* to change and evolve throughout the storyline (10-15 hour campaign that touches on some really interesting and mature themes) it's nearly impossible not to fall in love with them, quirks and all. Oh, and driving bullets into the robots and...
Gotcha, cool to know that people like yourself are going to give it a second chance. =)
Haha, what sort of prescription?
Anyone play FFXI or have high hopes that this time FFXIV turns out great?
Interesting little tidbit: Final Fantasy VIII came out on the PSOne in North America on 9/9/99 also. I remember I was all hyped for the Dreamcast launch and sort felt like, "Grrrrrrrr" as the FF8 release was obviously meant to steal some of Sega's thunder.
I agree as well. They've patched the game a few times since it come out, but for me Dark Souls just felt a bit more... rushed (note: Demon's Souls also received patches along its course.) Ultimately Dark Souls felt a tad unpolished by comparison to Demon's. Something about Demon's Souls felt perfect to me. I got 98% of the trophies in that game, but with Dark Souls I stopped after one play-through. I'll definitely be giving Dark Souls II a shot though.
<3 Nier sooo much. One of my favorite games ever. More people need to give it a chance. Despite the annoying amount of fetch-quests, it becomes beyond epic with a great story, soundtrack, characters, gameplay-- everything really.
I was gonna add that.^ So instead I'll agree-- DA:O is possibly my favorite this generation. If we're not counting Dragon's Dogma as an actual RPG. Haha. If we are, DD first, and probably DA:O second, followed by Deus Ex: HR. =) Good times this generation.
Good review. I picked up this title when it first came out and really enjoyed it despite its technical flaws too. It sort of exists in that realm of moving/artsy games, only without the polish those titles need to really shine.
Listen, there's nothing wrong with wanting to cry. I love Nintendo as much as the next guy; all I'm saying (at the end mind you) is that Reggie didn't look like his normal self. =(
Act 1 was short but sweet. Incredibly moody and well worth taking a look at.
