Apparently, they didn't "buy" their way out. They made a deal with Microsoft that states that every Halo or game called Halo by Bungie would have to be worked on and released exclusively for MS's platform.

I've been telling people this whole time that they have millions and millions of users, a ton of which actually buy content in there. It made $1,000,000 on it's first week, didn't it? I'm pretty sure it did. There was NOTHING to buy at launch and yet it made that much that fast.

Microsoft makes some baaad decisions, but the Cirque one was definitely one to remember.
They took the Sony campaign 2006 approach. Basically, make a "commercial" that is either weird or has nothing to do with the product and get people to say "ooh, I have to learn more about this." There's only one problem. It didn't work for Sony and it didn't work for MS.

If this whole console war series was to see who has the most bang for the buck, I think it would have been clear from the beginning who was going to come out on top.
The PS3 has been said to be extremely valuable from the beginning and that phrase only grew stronger with the shrinking price tag. What did we lose since the PS3 was $600? Four things? Two of which anyone ever really used and one of which wasn't removed but just shortened?
