Sony will have no problem getting paid royalties from MS. However, I gotta disagree about digital distribution. Digital distribution is years away from mainstream usage. MS will jump on the Blu bandwagon and they will do so with very little resistance (probably open arms) by the BDA. Sony is in a win-win here, they really set themselves up nicely.
I agree 100% MS will go blu next gen.
It will probably be a bluray player for the xbox3. Its too early to have mainstream digital distribution and they need to go with the format that is becoming the standard (although it has a long way to go against DVD). The BDA will gladly accept MS's money in royalties to put a bluray player in the next xbox. It sucks for MS but they will have to put up with it for at least another generation.
it will be relevant for later xbox's IF bluray becomes the standard format. We are years away from mainstream digital distribution and the "720" will have to make a hard choice. Pay your main competitor royalties for every BD sold and every console sold?
I would be shocked if they decided to announce the 720 at a CES show instead of E3.

I dont know how to put this any differently but you are simply wrong. DVD helped the ps2 crush its competition early on, bluray will do the same. Formats can make all the difference in the world. The perceived value of the ps3 just got a whole lot better.
Not to be rude but dont take info from one chain in one area of one country and act like thats some kind of proof.

1. The 360 has plenty of good games next year to choose from. I, however, dont think ONE of them can stand up to GT, MGS, FF, or LBP (i choose to be mum about KZ2 because in all honesty i am skeptical)
2. I cant BELIEVE you people dont think Warner going blu is a big deal for the gaming industry. ITS HUGE. DOES ANYONE really think that the ps2 would have sold so much if it had some proprietary format? ABSOLUTELY NOT. ...
Ladies and gentlemen.... GTA is still largely seen as a PS franchise and will forever be associated with the ps2. Just because a 360 is cheaper (not by much either, excluding that joke of a console "the arcade") doesnt mean that people will rush out and buy a 360. They will stand there in the store, weigh their options and choose which console suits them best.
It isnt all about price, its about quality, name recognition, and games and and and...
they havent taken market share. THey may sell more units than the original but it will in the single digit millions. They appeal to a small gaming community.
