You just have to look at software sales to know that the lead means absolutely nothing in terms of popularity anymore. In the end its about selling games and besides casual noob FPS reach of duty, most other games sell more on the PS3. 3 million is simply not defining enough to say one product is more popular.
Its funny how everyone has been saying the 360 has been raping, when the PS3 has still outsold it so far this year. No doubt the 360 S had a big impact on sales this year, but in reality its not possible for the PS3 to be loosing if the gap is closing. Even with the impressive US numbers the world wide PS3 sales will even it out or even put the PS3 over the 360 yet again.

When the difference is only 3 million consoles, you can't really state that the 360 is unequivocally more popular, especially when its been out up to 18 months before the ps3 and at a much lower price.

Everyone who will ever buy Halo already has a 360.
The characters will be free for sure, otherwise it would totally break the online experience. Capcom will make their money from the next set of costumes which will be released when the new characters are patched in.
Besides, i bought SSF4 for £20 and have gotten over 300 hours of play time already. Its worth every penny and if they did charge for new characters (they wont) i would gladly pay.
