There is a job posting for a ps3 programmer on the crytek web site. Looks like some of this renderer's technology is coming the the console market...
This game does looks nice... I especially like the water, and the bird flocking algorithm at work on the beach...
A few thoughts...
What is interesting, its that back in the early days of programming, it was all data based. The hardware required it, and the languages required it as well. We then had the luxury and genius of Dennis Ritchie, Brian Kernighan, and Ken Thompson. And we got to use C (and UNIX). I remember using the K&R compiler options on SGI systems.

AVS is not supported by either Bluray or HDDVD. Unless they change the specs for Bluray and HDDVD, or change the specs for the CHDVD, it's a unsupported encoding format.

Warhawk is a beautiful game...
I love the volumetric clouds, the incredible looking water, and the really convincing camera shaking from incoming bombing... not to mention the beauty of the levels, the smoothness of game play, or the dynamic lighting of the turret SAM launches... The sounds or each and every weapon, along with the "background" war sounds, make the immersion so incredibly convincing...

I have purposely stayed away this week, so I would not be "broken" at work.
Warhawk is truly the best multiplayer game experience I have ever had. Period.
I will be back online playing this weekend... I actually need to rest up to play this game, because I know I won't be able to put it down...
The Japanese will love this...
However, that puzzle ball thing will be getting thrown through some windows in frustration. Those balance the ball maze/games are really frustrating.

NPD figures only track US sales. The 360 has been 3rd globally more than a few times this year.
The fact is the ps3 is selling at the same rate that the 360 was selling at during its lifetime. This is while competing with the wii and 360. So note, at this time during the 360s lifetime, there was no competition to effect sales.

Microsoft does NOT make money on codecs used in Bluray OR HDDVD. Microsoft doesn't own the VC-1 codec, and the codec is an open SMPTE standard. It is patented by a total of 15 companies. Further, the spec calls for 3 codecs, only one of which is VC-1.

Are you telling me that you have people go personally to 300+ workstations and do disk installs? Sorry man, that is not how it is done. For PC imaging, Ghost is used. For server side, iso images (not discs) are mounted from the ILO on the server. NO IT group is gonna spend 3 weeks doing disc based installs, when an image can be ghosted in less than an hour.

I mean it was ID/quake, that pioneered the network technology and moved away for tcp, to udp for the smoothest response (on the internet). Before this point, the multiplayer games were only setup for LAN networking.

Let me tell you guys a little secret... most of us ps3 owners have been playing Warhawk constantly.... I just got finished playing a 12 hour stretch. 32 players 16 vs 16, CTF... ZERO lag...
The game is beautiful, and unyieldingly engaging...
I don't do the numbers rating sys...
If you are on the beta go take a look. It asks for an update on running home, and its starting to have people roll in...
The HOME square looks good, the foliage is really looking good.
The Gamespace is much improved...
