Actually, I don't know exactly what this guy is talking about, but something similar happens where I work, but it's all legit.
Basically, when we get a Wii shipment, they sell quickly till the last one is left, then the announcer announces it. When we run out, we get another shipment in a few hours later and then do it again. So basically you hear the "last wii" announcement every 2-3 hours or so.
