To Decrypt...
The PS3 can run openworld games fine. Saints Row the Third, GTA4, Red Dead Redemption etc all have stable framerates and don't lag like Skyrim.
It might be harder to develop games on PS3...but if Bethesda can't do it then they shouldn't release the game. It should have been put back to the Spring or something and worked on more.
Bethesda already confirmed in 4 seperate posts on the Official forums THAT THIS RUMOUR IS FAKE.
They say that they are working hard to eliminate PS3 lag/slowdown in 1.4
As a PS3 owner, i think we have by far the better exclusive titles.
But, sadly the Xbox is much better at the multiplatform games. So many of my PS3 multiplats are really disappointing compared to the 360.
Let's hope the PS4 has easier architecture.
Exploits are irrelevant in single player games. If you don't like them, don't do them.
Bugs need fixing, exploits don't matter.
Bugs happen....but the frame rate lag issue on PS3 (after extended play) is fairly inexcusable. Bethesda clearly didn't properly test large save game files on PS3.
They already said that they aren't fixing quest bugs until January. They have too many core code bugs to fix before they get to script/data errors.
No dude, it's on the Euro PSN already. US PSN is just being slow.
Maybe he is reviewing the PS3 version after 50 hours of play with an 8mb+ save file.
If so, the score is not far off the mark as it's a slide show at that point.
At the moment, bugs and glitches should be their ONLY priority.
The PS3 architecture has been the same since release in 2006 obviously. Split memory is no great surprise.
Bethesda has already released Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout NV (with Obsidian) on PS3.
As Skyrim is their 4th PS3 release, you would think that they were familiar with PS3 architecture by now and it's idiosyncracies.
Blaming Sony or PS3 for a Bethesda release is ridiculous. There are plenty of other openworld games on PS3 that work...
The game only has to load to RAM the location of items within a 100 metre radius of your character. The rest could be saved to hard drive and only loaded to RAM when you are within visual distance of it.
Seriously, there is no need to hold the location details of every object in the game in physical RAM at any one time. That info is carried within the relatively small save file (10-20mb etc). They just need to alter the code so that it only reads to RAM the object data in you...
Bad Company 2 was fantastic on my PS3. This can only be better. Day one purchase.
I don't give a monkey's what it's like on pc. Why should I? If I own a Ford, why would I care how great next door's BMW is?
No, games get reviewed alongside their peers on that platform.
You don't mark a Fiat Punto down because it's not a Ferrari, it gets judged alongside the other cars in it's class. That's the whole point, reviews are their so that a platform owner can make an informed decision on which game to buy for his system.
It's not for pc owners to mutually masturbate over the 1 game they get each year that is optimised for pc.
It won't happen. Cod doesn't have servers, it is peer to peer.
Getting tired of reading this sh*t now. I bet EA want Dice to shut it's mouth. The moeny is with consoles, pc gaming makes peanuts at best.
Businesses like Dice need to realise where it's revenue is coming from and keep it's mouth shut.
Oh well, I suppose let the pc gamers have their day in the sun. They only get a pc optimised game every 6 months or so, poor buggers.
Why would you want to play on pc and get owned by the wallhackers and aimbotters? That's if Windows doesn't crash after 20 mins because you have the wrong sound/graphic card drivers, or Dice forgot to optimise it properly for the 100k combinations of hardware out there. Maybe pc gamers don't mind it conflicting with AV, DRM or having to spend 4 hours editing the registry to get it to run properly. Once you get online, your budget pc will get spanked by a ninja rig running on full ...
A games dev admitting that he hasn't heard of a major gaming franchise?
Isn't that an admission of incompetance in your role? A bit like a Doctor not having heard of the kidneys.
You mean the Coral Sea map? Yes, let's hope the game gets something similar if onloy to get rid of the runway queues we'll see on launch.
No it isn't. SOFLAM is a vehicle laser painter. Support class has the mortar this time around.
Infamous 2 is openworld, smooth and pretty as a picture on PS3.
It's not true to say that the PS3 can't do openworld games. It is true to say that a dev can't just port xbox code across and expect it to be anything other than junk. It needs to be built from the ground up on PS3.
The lesson for Sony here is that the PS4 must have much more accessible industry standard architecture, otherwise we'll have another generation of sub-par multiplatfor...
