Yeah the sniper rifles do seem way too powerful, but sniper on sniper battles get to be intense. As well many of the levels have obstructions that don't allow for awesome sniping. So yeah in some areas it can be great while...
Isn't it a tad too early to be releasing yet another Rock Band? It's barely been a year. This is beginning to make Rock Band look like a Madden title from EA.
The market is saturated with rhythm games (about 3 this year from GH alone?) and adding on with less than stellar features, as well a reason for the release, is just stupid and asinine. More so it being exclusive it's going to be even more niche than a full on release. Were I a parent, I would not want to drop another $80 ...
It could have been far worse. They did not have to just dump $1 billion dollars into it. Everyone saw that the loss was coming and it was to be expected given the items included.
All and all $3 billion over two years is nothing given that they have been reducing lossed profit. Not every system released can be a Wii or DS.

At most really, they would have gotten $10-15 million. Voice acting doesn't pay that much (although they did do mo-cap work too).
You seem to neglect the factor that they had the restraints of a console to make their game (which is very, very, nicely done.)
Remove the fact that it has to be able to run on a console and just has to be rendered and it's an entirely new level of visuals. They could even prove this by altering the engine and making a 3 minute demo trailer.
I say they put their money where there mouth is and make that movie demo using the engine.
