Valve patch their games frequently because they care, other developer just wait for Pay DLC then patch
Also with all the hardware and software permutations that PC has patching has to happen frequently, for example just because code runs smooth on Intel and ATi set-up does not mean it will run well on Intel and Nvidia set-up but it far more complex than my joke of an example
