Isn't dropping support for the Wii U after the NX comes out the exact opposite of what they have been saying since the NX was first announced?

Do you have some quote that I missed saying they are moving all development off the Wii U? Or is this just your personal opinion presented as fact?

While I wish for a price drop myself, I do not see it dropping below $200. At that retail price point you may see a refurbished Wii U for $99.

I do not believe releasing the NX for holiday 2016 would be their best bet. It would stifle the rumors to some extent, sure, but it would also cut the Wii U off at 4 years of focused support. With the average Nintendo console lifespan being 6 or so years, coupled with their own announcement of full support even past the release of t...

A pox on the old and tired 'gimmick' argument, with a dash of Ninten-doom. I am tired of refuting it, so I'll just settle for my disagreement of all particulars.

I'd argue platformers, which the Wii U has in abundance, are more 'traditional' than FPS or TPS. I'd also argue they made the right decision to not include well-known characters in Splatoon. Players were calling for a new IP: they got it.

And, speaking as a die-hard Zel...

What you call gimmicks, I call features that defined the system. A facet of the system that depends entirely on how you present it, and something you continually present in a poor fashion.

Are you seriously implying that Nintendo has not been focusing on games this gen? Their games are the only reason the Wii U has sold as much as it has, despite third parties abandoning the system to its fate after less than a year of poor ports. Focus your disdain on the Wii U's fact...

Correction. There are not enough games available from retailers for the Wii U. Seeing as the Wii U is usually given roughly 10% the shelf space each of the other two get. There are plenty of games to buy for the system, yet I still see people (such as yourself) decry that 'it has no games', as if game quantity were any reason to buy a system. After all, Wii had plenty of games, but then the argument against it changed to 'shovelware'. I am curious as to what genre you thi...

I do not recall hearing anything about 'more people returning 3ds than buying'. Relatively slow sales, yes. Returns due to price? No.

You are implying the slow sales of the 3ds were because of power and that Nintendo could have drastically increased the power of the Wii U in about a year's time. I see no facts to back this up, just hyperbole.

Implying they will do this with the NX (which, I am getting tired of pointing out, we know NOTHING abo...

If the Wii U shipped with the pro controller and relegated the gamepad to an accessory like ROB or a Zapper, what draw would the Wii U have when compared to the XBox 1 or the PS4?

Players already ignore it and merely point out the power differences and lack of third parties when they insult the Wii U. Leaving out the one thing that sets it apart from the others would just give these shills credence.

That said, your casual reference to it as a gimmick and h...

I think VR will be very much hyped but will not be able to deliver in the end.

This is based off what I have heard concerning the difficulty of developing games for them and how different the two (or is it three now?) VR sets will be when it comes to developing games. Also, looking at the last VR console the Virtual Boy and seeing a similar scenario concerning the bulky headset and the VR experience being limited to the user.

It could be VR will hit it out o...

Given Nintendo's track record, if the NX is the successor to the Wii U I think we can expect some sort of backwards compatibility between the two.

Then again, we still do not know anything about the NX.

-Refers to gimmicks as if Nintendo has tried many and they have all failed
-Limits the relevant timeline to anything after the Wii, of which there was only the gamepad
-Uses the gamepad as proof

That's not exactly logical, there. I could somewhat see it if you include the 3ds as another gimmick, but that would detract from your argument as the 3ds has been very successful.

They haven't abandoned the Wii U. They are still developing a...

Well, the way I understand the WiiMote and what has happened to it is this:

They built the motion control feature into the gamepad and allow the WiiMote to be connected to the console to be used with games the support it. I mainly use my own for playing Wii games on my Wii U. So yes, it is still thought of and supported by the current console.

As for the development of motion controls, the story I heard was that a company pitched the idea to sony/microsoft ...

I honestly feel the content release schedule for splatoon was the best hope Nintendo had for breaking into the online multiplayer shooter genre.

I am not sure if it will be received as well if a sequel comes out, though. By then, players will have gotten used to the full extent of the current game, it will have a sizable following of its own (hopefully: my crystal ball has never worked well), and the devs will have a better idea of the game's direction and balance. Foll...

"DLC taken to a whole new level"

In one respect, I disagree. Amiibo do not unlock traditional things associated with DLC like maps or game modes. They unlock costumes and items that are not required to play the game and confer no advantage to the player when used.

In another respect, though, I agree. Unlike most (all? I don't really know) DLC today, Amiibo unlock things across multiple games. Which would be like DLC for Little Big Planet un...

With as much negative response Nintendo is getting for locking what they have behind Amiibos (things like costumes), I seriously doubt they will make the unlock-able content actually matter (say, a game mode or map).

And amiibo cards are a good thing that, imo, should have been available from the start, for those that just want to unlock the content and not hunt online for that unicorn Amiibo.

Your entire premise is based on a prediction they will make more c...

I'm usually in agreement with you, Concertoine, but I confess I am a bit confused by your comment.

You first state that everything but smash 4 is something lame like a costume or item, then later state they should not keep locking their content behind amiibos.

You cannot have it both ways. Either Nintendo makes Amiibo true DLC and make the unlockables truly worthwhile (which would annoy many people due to scalpers and scarcity) or they make the content...

How could you forget about Legend of Zelda Wii U?

3867d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Given the way third party devs have alienated themselves with the Nintendo player base this gen, it is doubtful they would ever support the NX.

After all, Nintendo fans only 'interested in Just Dance'.

3867d ago 1 agree4 disagreeView comment

After following Wii U news since it launched, I can hardly see how Nintendo has lost 'trust' with their player base. A poor reception to a single game announced during an hour long session of a week long event does not translate to 'lost trust' in gamers.

Third party devs, though, I can see. Concerning Wii U 3rd party ports, they have pulled Wii U dev teams to work on PS4/XBox1 versions and released the Wii U game months late at full price (Watchdogs), delay...

@ MSBAUSTX

I do not believe FallenAngel was suggesting that Nintendo has abandoned the Wii U, merely saying if they did it would be a huge disservice to current owners. A comment likely aimed at the theory that Nintendo will start releasing consoles at a faster pace in an attempt to 'catch up' to the playstation.
