Bungie did say that they are making a new engine for Reach so it would HOLD UP this holiday season. They didn't say anything about BEATING the competition.
Obviously Crysis is going to look better: the developers for Crysis focus more on the graphics department. Bungie focuses more on the gameplay. If asked, "Will Crysis beat Reach in terms of gameplay?" I think not.
