When it comes down to it, it's all supply and demand. Companies will make more single player games if people want it. Of course having best of both worlds is ideal.
Don't forget GOD of War III next year. That's as much of a single player game as you will ever get.
A more appropriate question is perhaps: "Is single player gaming quality suffering due to the focus on the multi-player aspects?"
