Patents are a tricky subject, unless the company who holds the patent of said technology is actively using it in their products, it should not be up held and be fair game.
No one should be able to hoard technology.
It was bleedingly obvious MS were not ready to release the xbone.
They had to react to Sony's release which I guess they vastly miss-predicted.
I think they meant to release xbox with windows 10 and dx12 from day one, but could not afford the year or so delay for that to happen.
I applaud them for their back stepping on certain controversial issues, and their eventual upgrade which hopefully will step up their game(s) even more.

Yeah, I understand that. But in Mafis 2 most DLC was unlocked with a single text file with the DLC unlocking code in it... THAT is what the problem was.

It was locked behind paywalls.
So you pay for the game install it, then have all this content already installed on your computer that you can not get access to because you must pay more.
THAT is a disgusting practice.

You have 1 year to upgrade your copy of windows 7/8.1 to windows 10. Then after you have done so it is yours forever. If you miss the 1 year mark, you can no longer upgrade for free.
You can then download a copy of the OS from the MS site, burn it to a DVD so you have an install disk.
Then your CD key is no longer needed.
Your copy of windows is now registered to your Microsoft account. So if you need to do a fresh install, install ...
