I think another reason people didn't buy it was because EA was attached for it. They generally aren't known for having amazing games likes this, or at least they weren't when the first one released.
I would say it's one of the best games around, period. Exclusive or not, the Dead Space franchise stacks up against the Uncharted, Killzone, Halo, Gears of War, etc franchises.
I played the first Dead Space through GameFly, and I think I bought it through them before I even finished it.
Dead Space 2 was a day one must buy for me. I regret not buying the first brand new. Visceral Games (formerly Redwood Shores)/EA definitely deserve the new purchase sales....

If you've played Call of Duty then you shouldn't have any problems adjusting to this. The controls are almost an exact clone.

Killzone 2 had great gameplay and had some great sections that broke up the gunplay. The mech section was great. Defending the station with the homing mis...
...and the fact that the guns sound like toys, the melee/assassinations are horrible looking, the graphics are very mediocre and the death animations are completely broken (getting shot from the front and flying forward).
For as much as they hyped this game and talked about the competition, based on the demo, they have a lot of ground to make up to be anywhere near the level of Halo, Killzone and Call of Duty.
Hmm I thought the article was going to say 'fun' because the campaign really wasn't fun at all.
I believe Bioware patched the game to make the scanner larger and move faster. Once you find a quick way to do it, you can scan a planet in a minute or two and get tons of resources.
To be honest, the only time the scanning felt like grinding was my first playthrough. Hell, I played it once and did as little mining as possible, only enough to level up my weapons. I wanted to see what would happen without upgrading my ship and the results were pretty sweet.

My opinion, which may or may not be shared by others, is that Mass Effect is an amazing franchise.
I've played Killzone 2 (awesome, reason I bought a PS3), Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Resistance, Resistance 2 and inFamous, and I enjoy playing the Mass Effect games more.

Anyone wanting to get Dead Space 2 with this, if one of your games is $60, and Wal-Mart carries it for $60 (and was never on sale), you could always do a no receipt exchange there and get Dead Space 2 once it releases. They take back anything and everything that's in their system.
I'll have to check to see what games I missed that are $29.99.

Hmmm maybe that's why they think "the ability to pick up objects and hurl them towards necromorphs (even dismembered limbs)" is new. You could do that in the first one. SMH.
This demo was awesome. The gameplay feels smoother and a little more responsive than the first.

inFamous is better than Prototype because it's more polished.
Sucker Punch picked a power and made each way to use it very refined.
Radical Entertainment went over the top with abilities. A lot of them were sick as hell, but there were just too many. When you start using the face that are buttons opposite each other to perform a move, you've added too many.

I just played Gears of War campaign again and the game still blows me away.
I've beat the campaign at least a dozen times and I still think it's a great experience.
Out of the games I've played (which isn't a lot), my personal GOTY is Mass Effect 2. I've played through it four or five times already and it's an awesome game.
I don't even think Halo: Reach is as good as Halo 3. I might be biased toward Halo 3 because it was my first Halo game, but I enjoyed Halo 3 a lot more.
After beating it at least once, sometimes it's fun to max everything and go beast mode and use cheat codes/glitches/etc.
I'll do it, but only after I've played the game the way it was intended to be played.
