The difference is, it lied more upon geohots side to prove that HE wasn't breaking any laws.

in this case, its the opposite, Sony now has to defend against them trying to prove their negligence or specific laws being broken.

can't blame the guy for seizing the opportunity. It will be hard to call him a moronic hick, when he walks out of court with a few thousand dollars.

Why on earth would they counter-sue someone who's information had been stolen from them? That just makes them look more irresponsible.

Certain kombat kodes should be lobby-options.
Would be cool to have no-xray specific rooms.
Maybe start a trend of making a room with using the kombat code as the name?

I don't quite think they are cheap, but they do stop players from experimenting, and are better suited to tag matches, imo.

Well, there may come a point where you change your mind. That point will be when you could choose to play on a billion dollar NASA-level super computer with a fast connection, or go try and build your own to compete...

When that day comes, I'll gladly just go for the super-fast connection.

But a youtube of games will likely be something like console quality flash games until major money gets behind it. When that happens though, it's going to look a lo...

and theres a VERY HIGH probability that recent events will have ripple effects in future lawmaking and lawsuits alike.

I will not be surprised when something from the past three months is used as an example of why all games need DRM, or some sort of enhanced security for users, that may negatively affect the user, without users actually having a say, because it was/is common knowledge that they'll just bow to it regardless.

It's not that hard to believe he wont, or anybody else. When there are already a multitude of alternatives, experiences like this DO affect the customers future choices. You'd be lying/naive if you said it didn't, even if it wont actually change YOUR mind.

Unless Steam and XBL get hacked for user info, this will be a stigma over Sony's head for a LONG time, whether it is a real issue or not. Sure Sony is the victim here, but is that going to be relevant if you...

I think the reasoning is self-explanatory: "Cuz dey nubs"

I hope there's an option...to remove the option altogether. It shouldn't pop up unless you play on the default or below (since the casuals will think they can handle 'normal' or just keep passing through menus automatically until the game starts)

and by casuals, in this instance, I think we really are referring to people who haven't gamed at all, ever.

Its cockiness. I might get flamed for this, but I think it really is expected of the Japanese people to the point where they don't see it as "cockiness" at all. Not as a defense mechanism, but as a drive to do anything substantial in the first place.

The two things really aren't as correlated as people think.

Its one thing to distribute games online, but the issue here is online only, or DRM dongles. Neither have roots in online distribution only. Not to mention PSN is open 24 hours, and Gamestop isn't, so the downtime hasn't even come close to matching the hours that you cannot purchase games from major software/tech stores in reality, with the exception of Wal-mart.

You may not like it, but its a brilliant idea to get hits for IGN, as ther'es not much reason to venture there on your own.

If they get slightly more educated people to troll, then they'll be on to something. *cough*jimsterling*cough*

FC2, as broken as some things were, still hit a mark that nobody's touched.

and people continue to fool themselves thinking otherwise.

I really could not care less about FPS single player unless its heavily diluted by other genres (open-world rpg, puzzle, etc)

More corridors of dudes to kill with a wannabe blockbuster story? NO THANKS. The stories recent FPS try to recreate from movies would suck even as movies, its pathetic.
