They made it because EA asked them too, and it's more realistic because it takes everything from BC2, and places it in a realism-based fps set in Afghanistan.
I don't think they can get more realistic than using weapons from that time, both teams having their own weapon sets, true, real life locations, and the amazing realism from BC2 all in one game.
Er, you do know DICE has said themselves that MoH is a much more realistic, grounded, and fun experience? And they made BC2.
I have both, (MOH is preordered), and I play both. But MOH is going against CoD in the way BC2 never did.
It's only the Singleplayer though.
The screenshots are from the Singleplayer mode of MoH. And they look better than the BO (Heheh.. Body Odour) Shots from Singleplayer.

All CoD games run at under 720p. 640p or something like that.
But, it's been confirmed that MoH runs at 1080p 30fps on PS3, to use twice as much textures as CoD does.

There are new maps, not just modes. It's also weapons, vehicles, and perks/gadgets. ALSO, there is already co-op, its called onslaught.

Last time I checked, both metro 2033 and crackdown were mediocre games, mass effect and metro also not being exclusives, and conviction was also on the pc.
Also, PS3 could easily double your list for 2010. Here are just some games, and unlike your list, these are exclusives:
