Grinding isn't supposed to be what the game is about. If they give more incentive to grind then it will be. There is a lot of stuff they need to add, but more vertical progress isn't it.
Proper food mechanics (and supporting gathering/cooking), more worthwhile scavaging, side-activities like tavern games, and most importantly some grand hand-crafted adventures. I want to pick up the wrong pirate treasure, and find myself cursed until I meet the criteria to lift it....
Pets are still planned to be micro-transaction stuff afaik. That's how they said they plan to fund the free DLC.
Oh I don't like Destiny. But the fact that your list includes games that came out after Destiny, games that aren't out get, games that are nothing like Destiny, and a sweeping inaccurate "nearly every MMORPG" kinda confirms there isn't much else like it.
Unless you really think Destiny is a copy and paste of Diablo 3 because it has equipment with numbers on it?
You essay is completely off the mark, and you are still speaking like you are an authority on a game you have never played. For example, you are flat-out wrong about the physics and you would realise that within 10 minutes of playing.
You say other people have to tell you how it is new, but you cannot back up your own claim that it isn't new by telling us what game(s) have come before that are similar. I've played WoW on and off for over a decade, and I've playe...
@Rainslacker I'll bite. The whole basis of your post seems to be that SoT isn't anything new, yet you start off by saying you "don't know what kind of game it is supposed to be". Immediately contradicting your own argument before you've made it.
Then in the first paragraph you liken the structure of the game to the "staple grind in WoW". One of the fundamental design principles in Sea of Thieves is that it does not offer any vertical prog...
It's funny that you get downvoted for saying that. Funny and sad.
What else is like Destiny 2? Besides Destiny 1?
I wonder how people would have reacted if SoT was "game pass exclusive" for 6-12 months or something? I would guess the reviews could have been a bit kinder, but there would have been a whole different kind of backlash.
I enjoy the game, but I suppose game pass changes the value proposition significantly.
Maybe they should have stuck it on game pass now, and withheld the retail release until it had cooked some more?
Oh wonderful, a full essay on a game from someone that hasn't played it. I'll be sure to bookmark this one for reading later.
I keep seeing this "we should hold them accountable". What does that mean?
You can choose to buy the game, or not buy the game. That's as far as accountability to you and "yuh friends" goes.
I'm sure people will hold Rare accountable for Sea of Thieves. Accountants, most probably. With books, and numbers, and bottom lines.
I'd call that a successful crusade. Well done you.
This is more like the old World of Warcraft level races, where people would organise a group to support them in gaming the system.
Still, a whole week even when gaming the system is a long time. It'll take normal players frickin ages.
Disappointing to see the legend voyages are more of the same. I hope there are some hand-crafted epic adventures in there somewhere, or coming soon.
If Morganfell's link to that old xmarksthespot comment is deliberate then I think he is trying to sell his PC for under $500. That's the only way the link supports his "point".
I'll buy it!
They said all games published by Microsoft Studios, so yes it includes all of those.
I didn't buy the game because it is on game pass. One sale eaten. That's enough evidence to confirm what I said, as it was hardly a bold claim.
You could possibly make an argument that it being on game pass generated more buzz and word-of-mouth recommendations, and in turn boosted sales numbers, but it'd be even harder to prove that.

Eh? Do you think I'm stupid or something?
I've played Destiny and I've played Diablo 3. There are similarities in some areas, and there are bold and obvious differences as well. Have you realised for example that one of them is a first person shooter, and one of them is not? Destiny 2 has some big problems, but "too many games the same" isn't one of them.
If Sea of Thieves has to strive to be unique in a world where Destiny 2 and...
