They could take out the power supply unit like the later PS2 slims
slimming down means cost savings for them and possibly for the consumers via price drop...

but really what other OS could Sony put on their Vaio? Linux? That's not mainstream enough. OSX? not going to happen.

I know they're all to blame, however Apple has the highest profit margins and is still bargaining for lower component prices (with their 'power' and being able to order in larger volume, etc). And they have billions in the bank.
While on the console side, they are selling at cost/at a loss, yet people still complain that it's overpriced. And if they do raise the price then all hell would break loose...
