So I have Wii Sports (who doesn't), Play (for the extra controller), SMGalaxy, Brawl, and Wiki.
The best game of the lot by far is Sports. After getting burned by SMG, Brawl and Wiki. I will not be buying any more Wii games until they're on the $5 bin. I will be subtracting 20 points off the top from any Gamecub--scratch that-- Wii games reviews. Really I'd rather play Waverace or Goldeneye on my 64 than fool around with the crappy WiiMote.
Last time I turn...
If you don't have it why diss it? Is someone paying you guys to diss Vista? What actually prompts someone to diss a product that they're probably never used? What's the source of the grudge against MS?
I have Vista, I like it far more than XP; wouldn't think of going back. What I like about Vista: Highly polished UI in terms of graphics and in terms of usability and intuitiveness. High level of stability (much higher than XP) also.
Have you naysayers actuall...
I guess what I meant to convey is that virtually any xbox failure not related to power supply can be returned to MS as you can just wrap the console in a towel and get force a RROD. Many would not find this type of behavior ethical but others may not mind so much.
BTW, wrapping your PS3 or Wii in a towel will also cause a failure. Not that I'm condoning this type of behavior but this is probably why MS wrote down a billion $ for RROD fix. Would I do it? I might, if I though...
I personally don't see the RROD issue as a negative. If failure occurs, MS will fix it without any problem for 3 years! Officially, only the RROD failure is covered by MS but why I don't see any ethical problems with sending it in for other issues; as long as I can get my Xbox to RROD, I have a free pass.
There's no other manufacturer warrantee in the world that can beat that on consumer electronics. Absolutely none!
I have experienced a DVD failure that was c...
Please please please.
360 + Netflix = 10% stock price jump for both.
Having both 360 and a Wii, I can see why MS would want to have a motion sensing control.
At current technology, Wiimote is highly inaccurate when compared to 360 controller. I don't consider this to be an opinion but a fact. I can't imagine playing Halo or Crackdown with Wiimote (yes I played Metroid prime and would have liked it MUCH better with traditional controllers or even SMG for that matter). I'd be frustrated after about 10 min or so.
OTOH, playing Wii...
Don't care a whit about any other feature DVR or HDDVD or otherwise.
I just want to see full integration with Netflix's Watch It Now feature. That's it.
Don't care to see a browser. I want to see a new Netflix blade and I'll be all over it. I'll even upgrade my Netflix account to unlimited (dropping Blockbuster account along the way) and I'll probably even buy another 360 just to put it in the bedroom; meaning I'll probably pick up several more copies of ga...
Have both open on a text rich site like this one and see the differences in text rendering.
The differences may be more of a preference but the text in IE is superior to my eyes. Almost like letters in FF are rendered too sharply? Anyway, this difference alone is what's keeping me with IE.
Don't know anything more about the poll than others but one thing to note is the polled audience. I've heard before that much of the profit that retailers generate WRT gaming is through software/game sales. That is they don't make that much money in selling consoles at all.
Given that, the only reasonable conclusion that one can draw from the polled result is that retailers have experienced the lowest game sales for Wii followed by PS3 and X360.
Most likely Wii...
Many comparisons above indicates that PS3 is doing similar to 360 in its first year. I'm not sure that this is valid comparison. PS2 vs. Xbox in terms of popularity is something like 6 to 1. In the end probably will reach something like 7 to 1. If we exaggerate a bit and say 9 to 1, then it would be something like Windows vs MaxOs.
Would MS consider Windows Vista to be a "success" if they sold as many copies as Apples does of its software in the next OS battle? A...
40K seems like a tremendous number. I have the impression that Japan install base is something like 800K or something. Using that number about 5% of the people who would have any reason to by a 360 game bought one.
That seems pretty damn impressive to me. This is the kind of number that could also influence customer base as well (i.e. console seller).
I don't have a model but one could reasonably come up a statistical model of overall sales of the game for a r...
Jave is not a codec. WMV codec is not a programming language. I'm not sure I follow your logic.
So what is your point? MS wanted to support BD but their conditions were rejected by Sony? So in essence you're saying that MS tried to support BD but Sony wanted the whole pie for itself.
In summary, you seem to be saying is that Sony wants to monopolize BD; when MS wanted a piece of the pie, then Sony said no because it wanted to whole thing for itself. So that'...
My perspective is that it is Sony's fault for combining their BD with the PS3. The initial entry to this generation's console was by MS and they used DVD drive in the 360. Subsequently, Sony decided to broaden the battle (sort of flank MS's position) by including a BD drive with their PS3.
To my eyes, this sort of forced MSs hand in the matter and they had no other choice but to support HD. So MS's actions can easily be construed and self-defense because it was Sony action...
I guess I wasn't clear... Xbox Halo2 has a very loyal following in the [online] multiplayer. The game, along with GOW, is probably one of the most played in Xbox live prior to Halo3.
The story is that when Halo3 is released, one or more of your buddy is going to be switching to Xbox360; that provides the added impetus for the Halo2 non-360 player to buy a 360+Halo3.
This effect is not present in MSG4 because it does not have an active multiplayer community to dr...
Lots of comments comparing Halo moving systems to MSG moving systems...
Two main differences that I see:
1) Halo franchise is wholly owned by MS which means that MS put a ton of $$$ behind marketing it. They did not skimp out at all. Some estimates were floating at a ridiculously low $10mil or so but this was probably pulled out of someone's ear. Money that MS spent to promote this was directly feeding into their frachise so they didn't feel that it was wasted m...
I agree that this is the best thing for Wii. Was really getting tired (physically and psychologically) of my kid beating me up in WiiSportBoxing. At least this will keep the kids off my back.
I bought this one yesterday and played a bit. Maybe I'm still at a lower level so don't appreciate it but to me it just seemed like another Mario game. No way near the same wow factor (actually none) that I experienced when I first fired up SM64.
Sound/music seemed pretty much the same as previous Marios. None of the orchestral/majestic that I'm used to hearing in many 360 games. Controls are right on track but what you can do with it is pretty much the same as what you a...
If you're coming from the PC side of the world, regular devs understand cores and threads reasonably well enough, meaning multi-threaded programming.
More cores are being added and so programming languages and compilers are currently undergoing a lot of research WRT multi-core programming optimizations. So investment in learning more of multi-core programming is actually good for the dev's future prospects.
Multi-SPE programming while sharing two threads seems...
I would assume that the most influential factor behind CH-DVD is that Sony is a much more significant competitor to native Chinese companies than Toshiba in the field of consumer tech.
Another would be that losing the hi-def DVD battle will be much more devastating for Sony than for Toshiba. More dogs in the fight for Sony as their profitable gaming division is tethered to BD for the foreseable future.
The Chinese government, by supporting Sony, has delivere...
