I have periphery knowledge about CV (computer vision) matter so my comments should be taken as such (i.e. more weight than someone w/o any and less than an expert in the field).
MS is the acknowledged leader in CV algorithms. They've been working on this problem (and it is a very large and very complex one) for the last 7 years at least. They have such a huge lead in the field that IBM has given up on the field altogether and turned out their code to open source.

Seems like this style is a hold over from the olden days when you didn't have enough graphic prowess and CPU to do live combat.
Sure D&D is fun but take out the human-human interaction and all you have left over is button mashing on time delay without the visceral feedback.

Perhaps you don't understand the business of console business all that well. Most of the big $$$ comes to the console companies in the form of software sales. This money goes to MS and dev houses and variety of retail stores.
