Not sure they do. Races in games with dynamic weather normally throw up a number of weather changes in a race anyway (with the acceleration of time lapse over race duration). Don't get me wrong, game looks spectacular in 4K and I will be participating but I think the season thing is a tad irrelevant...
I think it's fair to say that without MS, Sony would not be offering what it does at the moment. No matter how the cycles work, competition is good.
MS showed more intent than it has previously. It has a few stalwart IPs to shore it up and will hopefully strengthen a little. But I also believe Sony will react to that and plan accordingly too. I don't believe they intend to throw in a towel any decade soon. Too much money involved.

FIFA is an annual update that only gets a solid rework every 5 years or so. There are additions, refinements on presentation, atmosphere and gameplay (AI and animation) every year but not always a major change of direction. It's what upsets some people who think it's a DLC every year.
That said, I don't think the lack of fanfare this year means it's lacking content. Players will buy and judge, others will decry it as another annual cycle. And others will swap back and...
They should and they shouldn't. There's a balance in the first party devs on board and the 3rd party titles, alongside other developments (VR, possible handheld/Switch competition, PS5). Managing expectation and delivering on all fronts is still better than spreading resource thinly to try and blanket cover everything.

No. Not quite. Rockstar are more than likely still one of the best devs. They produce little in the way of games over years, so RDR2 will cover this. But Take Two are probably transitioning into the worst publishers. I still believe that RDR2 will be a fantastic game. It's the selling of it that's an issue...
Slippery slope. Imagine the fragmentation of GTA VI. You can buy every 4 chapters at $60 And we've written 20 so far.
If every 4 chapters offered 20-25 hours of fantastic gameplay, I wouldn't mind.

Original Gran Turismo and GTA3.
Had it on pre-order but cancelled due to perceived issues before release. Played it under Gamepass for about 2-3 hours and deleted it. Not my kinda game. Didn't see any massive game breaking bugs, but glad I didnt pay "game" price for this title alone...
That's not unique to this. Could apply to GTA, Just Cause, Far Cry...any game where driving is key, but not the only aspect of gameplay. Just an issue of game diversity. There is no solution - except a wheel with built in fight stick, controller and joystick/hand throttle combination... 🙃
