Cycling through them slows you down.
And RTS games have always been terrible on consoles, that's a fact.

Please explain to me how you're gonna assign numerical designations to groups of soldiers that you can access and command with a single key press on a controller.
Unless you can describe a way to make that work for up to 9 groups at a time, it shouldn't happen.
Age of Empires needs to stay far away from any console. Those are not the place for any RTS unless you wanna see them dumbed down for the sake of controllers.

Not gonna lie, I'm not particularly great at these sorts of games a lot of times, and I was still killing people with Star Cards even without having any equipped myself. It's not so game-breaking as people think, nor does it make a player more capable with their skills.

Heck you guys on about? It's a MASSIVE improvement from the first, in every way. I've got a few complaints, sure, but it's a solid game.
Even regular Micros can be preferable to the Loot Box mechanic tbh. It's downright predatory at times.
