I agree. It's true, AMD and Nvidia are getting ridiculous.

Instead of lowering the price of their current crop of GPUs, they just come out with more expensive ones. The price/performance ratio is staying the same.

They need to lower the price of what they have now, and introduce the newer generations at the same price point, not a higher one.

So by your logic, Microsofts exclusive should have been free considering the level of quality is no where near Sony's

Its not just a marketing thing. It also had to do with latency and timings. DDR had lower latency and tighter timings, while GDDR has higher bandwidth.

It has been proven by multiple tech oriented websites that latency and timings does not improve GAMING performance. See Tom's hardware or anandtech.

Clockspeed and bandwidth has also been shown to dramatically improve performance on AMDs APUs.

The reason we only see this on high end graph...

That is about right. Except you will never see 100% usage in your CPU doing other things that the GPU can't do.

Console developers, are going to max out everything they can do with the CPU and GPU and have a much more balanced yet powerful system.

The common misconception is trying to compare the two systems to each other since the PS3's architecture was extremely and arguably too complex.

But yes the 360 on paper based on developer comments had the more powerful GPU.

Lines get blurred though because the actual RSX specs were NEVER released. There is a reason for that.

Sony had to develop the GPU to work in cohesion with the Cell processor because it will not work like a traditiona...

Yup, Microsoft has their work cut out for them.

I remember when the 360 first launched, and for the first few years it was known as the "Hardcore gamers" console. Now if it completely reversed. All they care about is milking as much money from consumers as possible.

And actually I forgot to mention, rumor says they are going to allocate 2-3GB solely for the OS/Kinect. That means they are gimping themselves of the consoles real potential.

"As nothing has been confirmed for the next-gen Xbox yet it still can be assumed that they will do something to keep up with what Sony is presenting in the terms of actual hardware."

Well the rumors of the PS4 having GDDR5 was pretty accurate, but somehow they managed to get 8GB instead of the previously reported 4GB.

At this point, Microsoft's console is rumored to have 8GB of DDR3 memory.

I think both systems are going to be p...

^Yup

Rage did look good on a technical aspect, and the Megatextures were umm... Mega... But boy that game got boring QUICK.

Other rumors point to the 720 being subsidized $199.

4863d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

You know the rumors of $399 and $499 is more likely.

$299? Not going to happen.

RAM still RAM. Meaning, it is allowing data to be saved and accessed when needed by the CPU.

In this case since the CPU and GPU are on the same die and the 8GB of RAM is unified, it will be able to load higher resolution textures, assets, and allow the GPU to calculate physics much quicker.

So it does improve graphics. Of course depending on the developer.

Hilarious, a spec-sheet with a bunch of ??? all over the place.

4863d ago 7 agree1 disagreeView comment

lol

Yeah, surprised to not see him say

"8GB DDR5 is not enough, we need at least 32GB of DDR5"

Joking aside, I don't think any developer out there right now is complaining. It is a big deal to them and let's all hope for our sake they utilize it as much as they can.

^Can't believe people are still confused over Sony's 10 year lifecycle comment. They say they will support the console for 10 year, nothing ever said that they can't release a new console in between that time.

And the reveal of the PS4 just proves that. They retired the PS2, and now they will continue to support the PS3 until it is no longer lucrative while we have our PS4s.

"A PS4 is comparable to a $600-800 in core 2011 PC parts. (motherboard, ram, psu, CPU, GPU). "

That is just an assumption. And nobody knows the cost the 8GB of GDDR5, which at this point according to Digital Foundry, isn't even available for PC vendors.

Think about it... Let that marinate...

8GB GGDR5 is the Megaton, at least to developers.

Which I don't blame considering on PS3 they had to work split 512MB and 360's 512MB lol.

^I understand what you are saying.

It's not an Apples to Apples comparison.

Which is actually what I'm preaching. It just so happens most don't understand the differences.

Yes my 2600k at 4.4Ghz will probably get more of a work out in the future. But I'm stating for the past 3-4 years of PC gaming, even an i5-760 is still relevant TODAY.

But currently developers making games for PC are limited in SCOPE. Mea...

Yeah people don't understand the magnitude of 8GB of GDDR5 RAM. EIGHT GIGABYTES OF G D D R FIVEEEEEEEEEEEE.

And based on this article, they even mention how it is used different. In PCs, the only GDDR5 memory we have is in VRAM on our GPUs, which is blazing fast in comparison to standard DDR3 modules. The bottleneck is that the CPU and GPU has to communicate through PCIe. Although we do have PCIe 3.0, it isn't even remotely needed yet because developers haven't d...

This article actually gives very good insight though to the argument.

The way the PS4 is structured is not like a traditional PC.

So people cant be like "Well I have this CPU and that GPU, so it's the same as a PS4"

And again, developers will utilize 100% of the resources of the PS4 strictly for gaming. A PC isn't designed to do that. It is designed to do everything, thus needs all the extra resources.

If f...

Yeah it's typical anti-Sony FUD. They are going to look for ANYTHING to pick apart and spin it into something negative.
