The controller being locked is actually proof that region locking is an currency countermeasure. We all know it is going to vary wildly in price across all regions, and you can't have Japanese or European people buying gamepads and games cheaper.(well actually, the yen to dollar ALONE is killing Nintendos profits, so they kind of can't... still stupid though.)

Do you really think hacking will stop at subverting region locks? Would anyone here be this supportive if it was the Vita being hacked to subvert the online pass system? (SPOILER: I have been to vita hack n4g comment threads, and gravelords comment would have been agreed with to high heaven there.)

Except ps3 has the capability of being locked at whim as well: see persona 4 the arena. So Sony has been showing an acceptance and a wish to enact region ...
Why?
Because the 3ds has done well this year. The vita has not. And the story seems to be about the vitas current market struggle.(I would actually read it, but... I've seen dozens of these stories and discussions already. @_@
But that would not be the end of effect. People wouldn't go "I need to buy a nintendo to play more of this game!!", they would say "why buy a 3ds? I already have mario" and "This game came out, so maybe this and this one will too". There would be no end to the waiting, whining, and demanding for more and more nintendo games on other platforms. Hardware sales would fall, income decrease and quality slip.
If you want precedence, look no further...
It really doesn't matter what titles were released; doing this would undercut their own platforms and hurt longterm sales. They would literally be cutting off their own hands by doing this, and for what? A possible short term gain for some with long lasting negative results for everyone.
Hell, digital content wise it already matches/exceeds ms and Sony in many regards.
Because it wouldn't sell enough to have a high enough install base to encourage devs to make games for it(plus dev costs on such a machine would be devastating to devs and make it even riskier, causing even less support)
The result would be a super capable machine no one buys or makes games for... that hardly sounds worth 500$. (EDIT Buh, 600$ is what I meant... even so...)

Nintendo changed the price because of the 3ds. And that tune didn't change for months... when the vita actually launched. Still hasn't in pockets of n4g actually.

Considering the 3ds has more games lined up til March than the Vita has lined up til 2014, and not a single one is a Mario or Zelda game, I'd say that assessment is a load of crap.

The Vita is not doing good, and this week has done little to change that position. That doesn't mean it is going to fail of course, but every week of relatively low sales and minor/no future game announcements makes its position worse and worse.

Investors may still be sour on Nintendo for(rightfullly) avoiding smartphone development. With Immediate potential grand sucess(in their eyes... and even if they were right, they are ignoring the long term damage that would cause the company) ruled out and uncertainty ruling, investors are leery... though many of these finicky investors wouldn't be if they actually took the time to research the company and industry they choose to invest-in in the first place.

If I harbor any ill will, it is caused by the extent of his apperant stupidity (in regards to certain subjects) and it's illogical contiuation.
But at the end of the day, I don't hate him at all... just a lot of what he says. If what he predicted was ever even close to logical/accurate, even if I disliked it, then I would feel differently I'm sure. ^ͺ^

How did nintendo as a company in your write up "lose"? They gained more fans than they lost in the GC Era(contrary to popular belief, THAT is when they lost "gamers") Have only posted 1 yearly loss, but only while heading into the next gen and sold the most consoles, with ds set to overtake ww ps2 sales.
In my opinion, the wii is grossely underapreciated, but I can see the case raised by others here on principle. But on MONEY? Nintendo made more than sony/...
