Not all games need online mutiplayer to be good.
In fact, some of (read: most of) the best games ever produced have no online multiplayer and they're better for it.

I usually don't get terribly excited over FPS's but I need this game!
And I'll tell you why everyone is so excited about this game (Graphics aside)...
It's the setting, underwater city... how has no one thought of this before? (forgive me if someone has but I can't think of one off the top of my head).
This game is going to rock, I'll have to get it for PC since I'm sans 360

If this does happen (I doubt it will) my guess is the benefit will be for movies only. Games will always have to remain on dvd for obvious reasons.
This would however, with all the other improvements (65nm chips, HDMI), make for a solid console. Now if only they would stick that power brick inside...

The big issue is also the level of immersion.
Getting up to change a disc will take you out of the game and a big part of "Next Gen" hardware/software is immersion.
Anything that takes you out of the game/experience are those things that the devs are trying to eliminate.
I.E. Changing a disc 2 or 3 times or getting rid of the HUD on a FPS...
Anything to improve the experience and totally immerse you in the game...

PS3 comes with a 1 year warranty that you'll likely not have to use for the life of the console.
