It is a competing service on a different platform with similar features....and it's also free. They've built hooks into the platform for netflix, last.fm, and facebook. Why wouldn't they for steam? It's because Microsoft doesn't want a competitor in the game segment on their platform.
Never gonna happen. Microsoft doesn't want to give users a free experience that matches their paid service; that would make people start to guess why they're paying a subscription
Redesigned xmb would also make sense, if it enables easier communication. "The door" could be something that obstructed communication. It also seems to imply something that would make a large community happy...going from a warzone to a chatty environment.
