yes this is what devs should do. Don't invest in any platform. Wait for a large enough base and then adopt the namco approach and release 4 (Tales of) games in a little over one year and hope for the best.
If it doesn't go well for SOME reason find a way to blame gamers.

Yes, and currently the psp outsells them both combined. You also still see psp games at the top of the japan charts.
I'm not making excuses for vita, it has been handled horribly. But there is a lot of time ahead, far beyond the normal nintendo life cycle
Nintendo, kings of handheld, had a horrid time with a 3ds launch at $250, so its no surprise that the vita is still struggling.
The difference between the 2 companies is the life span of their hardware. The PS2 was produced almost as long as the gamecube and wii combined. The psp is still going along as well.
Its hard to support both a console and a handheld. The crappy COD and Resistance really hurt them.
The ps4 is more important to them financially because of the added revenue streams as compared to the handheld. It will be interesting to see what impact the vita TV ha.s

a $60 2d platformer is a tough sell. Rayman legends could have been broken up into smaller games over time.
I'm not saying that legends isn't worth it, just that 2d platformers do better in the <$20 price range
He oversaw the most successful nintendo handheld and home console in history. One bad year is no reason to fire someone.
When the 3ds was struggling i said that they should drop 3d and make the console cheaper. Everyone disagreed, but at least he saw the business sense of it, and they will make billions because of it.

When new super mario brothers outsold the galaxy games 3:1, Nintendo, sadly, thought otherwise. And who can blame them? Graphics alone dont sell software.
They want to keep development costs down for as long as possible. They gamble on the Hardware but play it very safe on the software front.
Very true about the hard drive. i'm hoping for a PS4 without hard drive one day for cheaper ($350?), but based on the price of the 12 gig ps3, i don't think it would matter much in the pricing.
The vita memory issue is depressing. I skipped killzone because of a day 1 1.2 gig patch. I stopped all stars because of a 800 mb patch.

This may be true, but if you expect people to fork out $300 for one of 3 consoles, there are certain elements that you must accept and incorporate into your console.
