7-10 year cycles require developing hardward(esp CPU/GPUs) that can last long enough to compete against NEW technology. The research and prodcution costs sky rocket and result in EXPENSIVELY priced release consoles - eg Ps3.
4-5 cycle means the hardware doesn't need to be revolutionary and therefore won't be so expensive to develop and produce. Subsequently the release console would be very affordable - eg Wii.

I don't have a xbox 360....yet.
But I'm definitely getting one for my favourite FPS Halo as well as Gears & Bioshock. But I'm in no hurry to buy due to the price and quality issues of the console.
I disagree with your other comments about my posts. They are almost exclusively on the Ps3 section - clearly indicating the console I favour. I very rarely dish on the xbox 360 and if I do, it's really a jab at its maker, Microsoft.

Ps. you don't buy a console JUST for 1 game. You know that there are other games there or coming but a single game may get you to buy earlier. That's the case with LBP.

As a New Zealander, yes we - like the Europeans - pay more than the US but the fact is the USA is a major market. They have to be treated differently - given more favour.

The Wii will be for the console industry as the DS is for handhelds.
It wins on price and gameplay/wii-mote - it's simply cheap and fun.
The only way the Wii will lose its lead will be if the NEXT GENS makers produce their own wii-mote and reduce their price to be on par with the Wii.
I'm still hoping Sony produces a wii-mote for the Ps2 otherwise bring it out for the Ps4 or near the end of the cycle of the Ps3. If they don't then the Wii will win ...

As much as I love the Halo franchise, its hype has already started to wane.
It is the only game that could have revived the xbox 360. But as we know, the majority of buyers of Halo 3 would already have an xbox 360. There's not going to be another game that will significantly increase xbox 360 sales.

The Guys & Gals at Bungie are very talented and should be proud of the work they've done with the Halo franchise.
But we have yet to see anything from Bungie as good or better than Halo.
It would be interesting to see any new IP especially for the the Ps3, but if it never happens, who cares?
