What I don't get is why anybody would have ever wanted to play the top down Zelda games. The only top down games that I have ever played and quite liked were Attic Attac and Zombies ate my neighbours but they still weren't as good as platform games.

This list has been written by somebody who seems to have mainly played FPS games in the last few years or so.

Mario 64. Freez-easy Peak on Banjo Kazooie. Lost Planet. Phenandra Drifts on Metroid Prime. Donkey Kong Country. There's one in Sonic 3 and Quackshot. Crash Team Racing. Starfox Adventures. Perfect Dark Zero. Bioshock has icy parts.

Nothing especially Christmassy about some of these games.

What about Banjo Kazooie for the Freez-easy Peak level or James Pond II: Robocod which has a level set at Santa's factory?

As in the first game, I don't think that it's going to be the quality of the moving water effects in Bioshock 2 that especially impresses.
As some others have said, Uncharted had some great water effects. In terms of water, it was more the change between states, from ice to water, and looking out on the ocean, the image slightly distorting through the glass, that looked good in Bioshock.

When I first heard about the ideas in Bioshock 2 I immediately thought 'This is goi...

Shenmue came out in some areas in 2000 but it is originally a 1999 game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

The Wind Waker looks and plays beautifully and its spin on cel shading will remain distinctive but it is far too generous with hearts and sailing is a chore. But it is better than some games on this list.

Jet Set Radio (the Dreamcast original) should be on there.

I'd take RE4 off there and put the better looking Gamecube Resident Evil remake on there with proper puzzles and everything. Alone in the dark: the new nightmare was good too.

Where is Unc...

American gamers have nothing to complain about regarding game prices. The RRP of Xbox360 games in the United Kingdom at launch was £49.99 ($79.73 by the current exchange rate) and N64 games were routinely £60.00 ($95.70).

This site reckons that it's 'America's only Humor and Video site since 1958'. Where could someone have found this humor and video site exactly in 1958? Not online, that's for sure.

'Do you remember what the most important thing in your life was in late 1997? Of course you do, it was f*cking GoldenEye 007....'

If I'd owned an N64 or been in to FPS games at the time I might have enjoyed PLAYING Goldeneye 007. But not what they said.

I'd have liked to have seen Rare on that list. They've been on the go since the early 1980s (although under a different name name, still the same company and still with many long serving staff). I know that they can divide opinion now but that's as much to so with the tastes of Xbox360 players and the changing tastes of gamers in general as it is to do with Rare. Rare are still keeping their games relatively light hearted rather than full of pretentiousness and you always know that their game...

Hydro Thunder looks like a proper, fun, arcade game.

It does sound like this generation's Shenmue. If the Dreamcast hadn't been discontinued so quickly we might have seen other games like this a few years ago.

For a moment there I thought that Destructoid's representation of New Super Mario Bros Wii was an actual Wii advert.

As people have said, an early version of RE4 turned in to Devil May Cry instead. However, to me, RE4 is still not dis-similar to Devil May Cry. Dante is like a more show off version of Leon Kennedy. I think that it was a conscious decision by Capcom to make you control someone who seems sure of himself so that you don't feel too overwhelmed when you are fighting some of the hideous enemies that you face - people with chainsaws and giant bosses. Unfortunately, I didn't identify with Leon Kenne...

The Telegraph said that Bioshock 2 is steampunk. I'd agree that in some spirit it is but strict steampunk fans would probably say that it isn't because it isn't a Victorian setting. Well, it practically is in a way. It's set in 1960 but the origins of the environment are 1920s/1930s art deco which was itself an offshoot from the Victorian age and some of the features and areas are quite Victorian looking. Also, the machinery in Bioshock isn't powered by steam and steampunk tends to be less dy...

Given that Sega created Shenmue I suspect that if the Dreamcast hadn't been discontinued so soon we might have seen games like Heavy Rain 5 or more years ago. I'm looking forward to this and Alan Wake in particular.

Maybe it's because their readers know that the next Xbox console is unlikely to be called the 'Xbox 720'? The number '720' has connotations with standard hi-definition. Xbox 1080 would be a more likely name if they stick with a number. They might choose another word instead.

How comes the Wii's a 6th of the price of the Xbox360?

Oh sorry- I thought for a moment there that was actually some kind of logic to these things selling at all.

Call me old fashioned but if you want a burnt Xbox360 that you're going to call art you just burn an Xbox360 yourself don't you? Do they really think that the person who put the Xbox360 in to the microwave is so imbued with special powers that they are worth all this money for the privilege?

Anybody who cares about the future of true 'survival horror' shouldn't rate RE4 highly. People complain about RE5 not realising, or ignoring the fact, that it was their overblown praise of RE4 that convinced Capcom that more of the same would suffice for the time being.

RE4 is embarassingly absent of puzzles as if it thinks that puzzles aren't 'cool' any more. Without puzzles there is less need to explore environments and therefore less items of any interest to collect apart fr...

This is an excellent list and I wouldn't necessarily change anything on it.

I can't even say that F Zero doesn't deserve to be on there even though the Megadrive later did a passable amount of a sprite scaling effect on Puggsy: e.g 4.17 on this:

What about Aladdin on the Megadrive for being arguably the first time that you truly felt like you were in a t...

Have 1-2 out of 100 politicians played enough videogames to get anywhere close to making an informed statement on the matter?

Anyway, I think at least 1-2 out of 100 of the population have done REALLY stupid things anyway so why concentrate on videogames in that respect?
