First, selling a copy of a game has so much higher of a return compared to what we know Microsoft and Epic pay to have games on services like this. So Microsoft, let's be generous and say they paid 10 million. At an average of $30 per sale on PlayStation if a million people bought it on PlayStation which seems like a lowball given what was said about sales at the time. PlayStation contributed three times as much revenue.
Well, if 30 million subscribers can't keep the lights on for a game like this, isn't that exactly what people have been warning about subscriptions?
The number of publishers that have launched their "next game" on game pass seems almost nonexistent. In fact, if you look at a chronological list of games added to game pass, you will notice a clear departure from even recent release AAA games in general.
I don't know what problems you're having on PlayStation. Because I have never had a problem with it in three generations. It updates overnight, or when I put a disk in to install a game, it automatically starts. Or if there is an update, it will prompt you to update when you load the game. And if you want to update a game manually, it always offers you the option right in the game's menu on the UI to check for updates.
Consolidation isn't just when Microsoft or Sony buy studios.
Embracer Group has bought around 30 development studios since Microsoft set off what is considered a consolidation push in the gaming industry.
And on top of that, why do you assume that Embracer will either bring many of these franchises back, or will be able to make them into the same level of quality you expected? If the original owners were struggling to keep these profitable, why do yo...
Actually, Activisions stock prices have fallen by around $20 since Microsoft announced it. So factually they are worth way less. And that's on top of the around 15$ Microsoft was paying over the original value.
This is an article about sales, I'm talking about sales. You guys are the ones talking about game pass.
But I did read the article about Guardians of the Galaxy that said it wasn't profitable. And the article about how Square Enix sold the whole studio for a cup of coffee.
