If he has Phillip in his name, he must be good.
This article is victorious simply for the Jingle All the Way stuff.
I always forget something!
I'll definitely mention that when I bring up Call of Duty tomorrow. ;)
So once again Geoff Keighly and the game "journalists" who agreed with him about the update being 5 GB are proven ignorant and wrong.
What an industry.
That's understandable about not wanting to ask Wii U owners, but that's a loaded question anyway, don't you think? :P
Mario's reaction in the article picture was mine to reading the headline.
We have enough "Is _______ doomed?" articles in the industry already. Is it simply an easy way to get people to click on one's stuff? Even if the opinion is "no, it is not the beginning of the end", the question is asked so much that I'm completely tired of it.
Exactly. I definitely left so many games out. I guess if someone is just into big budget blockbusters or shooters, the Wii wouldn't be their cup of tea.
I think gimmick is an overused and oftentimes misused word by some people. Along with shovelware, rehash, AAA and many more words.
I would probably find the community aspects of Miiverse more engaging than the community aspects of trophies and achievements, which I don't really care about all the time. It would be fun to see communities on Wii U for third party games share messages with the world and help each other out.
"was a gimmicky letdown and took up residence in closets everywhere a few months after release."
Not for me and many others. Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Xenoblade, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Wii Sports Resort, Kirby's various games, GoldenEye 007, Monster Hunter Tri, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, NSMB Wii, Tatsunoko, Mario Kart, and many others made it my most played console.
So speak for yourself, Phoenix New Times blogger. Perhaps you're as ...
I'm definitely picking this up. It looks to scratch that itch for a party-like fighter.
Sounds entirely reasonable to me. I think your thoughts are logical. If only the industry was full of people like yourself...
This is an excellent, well-balanced article. I'm glad the overreacting and hyperbole was left out. Great work, Mr. Totilo.
I didn't enjoy the original, but I may rent this one for curiosity's sake.
I survived the Red Ring of Death launch, and if I had a Wii U, I'd survive that too. hehe
Nice piece, Matt. You are the hero that the gaming industry needs, but not the one that we deserve. Or whatever that Batman quote was. Eh, you can't blame me for trying.
B1G1 1/2 off on Wii U games is nice. I'd get NSMBU and Scribblenauts Unlimited!
I don't like it when a developer has so much enthusiasm for their project and it ends up not as good as they and the gaming public would hope. :/
I'm a sucker for red, white, and blue. Not all together, mind you, but either of those colors is what I'd want if I got an XL.
EDIT: And that has nothing to do with me being an American, now that I look at it. My black 3DS is a darn fingerprint magnet!
Some of these like "proper multiformat games" don't really work when the ports are honestly not very good.
However, this article does interest me in getting a Wii U. The present may be clouded in misery for many gamers, but the future looks nice to me with games like the obvious next 3D Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, Pikmin, and stuff like Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest X, Bayonetta 2, and The Wonderful 101.
I believe that's what Nintendo TVii will do. I'm not too well versed on it, though, so if someone could clarify, that'd be great.
