Going to bigger and more powerful consoles which means bigger and more bloated budgets certainly won't and currently aren't helping. When a game requires at least two million sales to break even, something is definitely wrong with the current business model.
I have been getting urges on my own site to forgo numbered scores and go to a letter grade system. I am just wrapping my entire brain around the problem for a good solution.

I know with the Wii the genre got new life breathed into it for me. I loved the pointer controls of most later first and third-person shooters. Not as good as a mouse/keyboard, but better than dual analog, which I was growing tired of in all honesty.

I wasn't really trying to say that Nintendo shouldn't worry about third-party support. I was saying that building a console around Nintendo's own games would hurt third-party support a bit but wouldn't totally ruin them.
