Because of the internet....Google, Facebook, Steam, etc.
There was a time when if Microsoft said jump, everyone had to say 'how high sir'.
Today, after getting hit with all those antitrust suits....Microsoft's power has been severely diminished, and it continues to diminish every day. (Smart Phones, tablets, and other devices using other OS's)
If you need an example....then all you have to do is look at GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE ...
Even a PS3 fan such as myself can admit that.
Sony has significant console publishing rights to Final Fantasy 7 in the American and European regions.
Sony is not going to relinquish this without serious and severe negotiations, and it would need to be for a VERY good reason, and a "just because we at Square-Enix want to" doesn't fall into the very good reason category.
600MB to 700MB per hour on my Comcast.
Now, yes, it is true I could go faster, but then I would have to pay double, and in this economy, I'm on a budget and had to settle for this with basic cable for $60 per month.
As you've been told, not everyone has 3 to 5 Megabytes (not megabits btw, I know the difference) per second.
There are MANY millions of people in the US that aren't even as blessed as my paltry 200k.
No o...
People weren't getting their money's worth in technology....
But clearly, $600 was too much to ask the general consumer for a gaming machine.
Personally, for me, it wasn't until they announced PS3's were going to be $400 that I began my plans at seriously buying a PS3 in 2008.
There's just a point where too much is simply TOO MUCH, And $600 was definitely it.

I haven't seen anything that the XBOX 360 absolutely couldn't do.
Is the PS3 a little more powerful?
Yes, I can go with that, but it's not by any great degree or leap, because everytime the PS3 has jumped forward, the XBOX 360 has been following pretty close by and hasn't been left behind yet.
I'm a hardcore PS3 fan, but I'm just delivering what I've observed over the last 3 years.
32GB+ SD cards are too expensive....we'd be looking at something worse than N64carts price wise.
Microsoft isn't a real hardware company, nor do they have any real ties to Hollywood...so what choice does Microsoft really have?
50GB+ disks for less than $1. What's good about avoiding that?
.
Only games submitted before trophies were enacted are exempted.
TOR was Bioware's doing.
And to be honest.....until Somewhat recently, I've gotten the impression that if EA had a chance to do it all over again, they would have prefered not to do a Star Wars MMO. Why? Because EA can never really own that IP.
Not that EA is or was against it per se....but the whole idea behind the licensing and property rights of the franchise is counter intuitive with how EA is accustomed to doing things.....big financial risk ...
That includes PC exclusive games as well.
-We were told that Crysis couldn't be done on consoles.....That was a lie.
-Witcher 2 is coming to console.
-Diablo 3....we already know that's coming to consoles.
What do all of those games have in common Vortis? I'll tell you. All of those games can be played by PC's that are LESS CAPABLE/LESS POWERFUL than the current HD consoles.
Ergo....PC develop...
"While we might not see a digital-only model in the near future, we could see one by 2016 - which is when the PS3's 10-year life cycle matures."

No....we won't be ready to download 50+ gigs in 4 years either.
Games are held back by budgets.
It was good for PS1....It was good for PS2...and I'm having a great time with it for PS3.
Maybe add another button or 2 here....slightly adjust the sticksthere....I'm good.
If it ain't broke, don't fix.
Edit...those who complain can get their own 3rd party controllers.....I have 2 of them I bought from Amazon for less than $15 (1 of them is shaped like an XBOX 360 controller)
Old news as far as anyone SHOULD be concerned.
Those in the know or are "more advanced" on the subject, they might be wondering if BATTLE.NET is coming to consoles like Steam is for the PS3.
I paid $19.11 for Rage on Amazon in Mid December.
I still haven't opened it.
Where does that fall on the list of importance?
