Because developers like Naughty Dog have every tool, trick, technique, and the full power of Sony behind them.
Let me give you a great example of what I see happening at some point.......
Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games, Santa Monica, or whoever else, will push the PS3 to its full CURRENT optimization limit, and they want to squeeze even more power to do those once "inconceivable feats"...So, Naughty Dog petitions Sony for the extr...
They took a risk and were basically first to the market with their service and now they are reaping great reward for their venture...they SHOULD be rewarded for that.
That said, Valves download service "monopoly" (if that's what you want to call it) will be a fairly short lived one. Why? Currently, Microsoft has reached the HOLY GRAIL of business's everywhere...they have a bonafide service that keeps 20 million Plus users paying every month/year. Not many companies can achieve this.
If PS3 keeps gaining marketshare, or frankly, any current or future brands, then XBOX LIVE stands at risk of losing its own marketshare. That is something MS should and is definite...
And justfully so for claiming Val. Chronicles and Demon's Souls are shovelware.
If someone says HALO, GEARS, Or Mass Effect, or Fable are shovelware...they too would deserve bubble loss.
If you had said, they weren't your style of game, that would have been different...but your utter lack of respect and disrespect for gaming needs to be silenced until you learn better.

Personally, have questioned some of HHG's past reviews, but here, I don't think this is a fair example for you dismissing him....not this time.

I think what Sony did was BS, and any lawsuits incurred, assuming they don't rectify and/or compensate those they've wronged in this, any lawsuits I would gladly welcome.

For an independent developer,
Valve is actually pretty big...for an indy, I mean.
Not only that, but Valve makes a spitload of money...they make it by the truck load with Steam....although steam's success might be finite considering all the other Digital Stores that are gearing up...anyone with a computer and the bandwidth will be able to have "a store" soon.
Finally, while Valve is still independent, Valve is backed by EA.
