I think it's more a testament to the importance of price when people are poorer than normal. You can get a PS2 for half the price of a 360, the game library is unbeatable, and without a big HDTV, it's hard to see the graphical difference anyway.

I don't understand why I'm the only person really excited about this game. Didn't anyone play IL-2? Didn't you guys play Microsoft Flight Simulator back in the 80's and early 90's and WISH you could do dogfighting under bridges and between buildings?

"They" is a sweeping generalization that doesn't apply to most people in Japan. "Some" people like violent anime, just like "some" people like violent games.
Anyway, the system is pretty strict for selling games in Japan. Too much blood and it can only be sold to adults. I have no idea, but MS might be trying to tame it down a bit to get an under-18 rating on it, which would help sales a lot.
The 360 has a good following amongst hardcore gamers in Japan, so I disagree slightly. Lots of kids like the 360, too.
I'm a Sony Droid through and through, but next generation will be much better for the Xbox in Japan. I might even get one.

You are full of sh\t. Games in Europe cost the same as they do in Japan. In fact, considering that Japan has a 5% consumption tax and most European countries are much higher, European games are in fact cheaper than Japanese ones.
And this is on Amazon, if Amazon.fr is anything like Amazon.jp, it's an average price. You can find lower elsewhere.
