Sure, so let's just have terrible cutscenes one can't take seriously and just be quiet about it, because it's games we're talking about, so screw the stories and screw the cutscenes, right ?

Well, no. Some of us are more than glad that games can be a narrative medium, and we play games to experience stories in a different way than litterature and cinema. And guess what ? We enjoy it !

Also, you misread or misunderstood the article. The poi...

I think the piece is less about morality and more about : you can't take seriously cutscenes where survival of the protagonist is at stake when the player seems overpowered during gameplay. What Die Hard does is hurting its protagonist's body through the movie. Thus MacClane sounds human and we can relate to his fight for survival.

I don't think we have this issue in survival horror games, precisely because the gameplay makes survival a challenge and you can'...

Loved the piece.

"When Arthur Morgan single-handedly dispatches 40 or 50 or 60 Saint Denis officers, his later conversations with Dutch, about how the gang has to keep a low profile and is at risk of being killed by the pursuing law, become very hard to take seriously."

Word.

No it has nothing to do with how old the game is. All the requirements for the good ending seem very hard to find without a guide. And the battle system itself made little sense to me back when I played the PSP version (not that I couldn't win the fights, more than I had a very strong feeling of not knowing exactly how everything worked, thus a lasting impression of playing it kind of wrong).

Way too obtuse for my taste.

Didn't know that ! Thanks for the info.

Would be nice to have a PS5 version that runs at 60 fps.

@zarbor I do wonder why.

Not PS exclusive, but Frogwares exclusive ; they released it only for the PS5 and Xbox Series versions that they published themselves.

I'll google what Oodle texture is :-)

I remember though that Subnautica (cross platform project iirc) made good use of Kraken tech.

They did make an exclusive DLC and some nice Dual Sense support, though.

I agree with what you say, but I'm pretty sure all this could be done on PS4 if devs put emphasis on these things rather than pure graphical prowess. Each and every generation of hardware have their limits. At the end of the day it all comes down to how devs choose to use those limited resources. A new generation just means less compromises for the same graphical fidelity, but as graphical fidelity increases new limits will be reached... So I don't think PS4 is to blame, it's more...

Title is a bit misleading when the intro says : "God of War Ragnarök's critical and commercial success shows it doesn't need to be a PS5 exclusive".
And sure, it doesn't need to be a PS5 exclusive to be a commercial and critical success. Though it would be a more interesting game if it were a PS5 exclusive.

Great news. Not all developers use Kraken. Recently I installed The Sinking City and the file size is bigger than the PS4 version's.

Not me. The author even writes that Horizon FW didn't feel like a last-gen title, even though it was.
I think it all boils down to design decisions. Ragnarok devs chose to have many hidden load screens, and it doesn't allow to say anything about the PS5 experience (see Miles Morales that has virtually no loading time, or even Tsushima). And apart from loading times, game design innovation is always a design choice. I recently played Subnautica, that game was amazing, and it r...

I'm playing almost only 60 fps games on my PS5 and I'm happy with that, that's the reason I bought it for.

1163d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

I fear we'll begin experiencing more and more 30fps capped games if the PS4 were to be left behind.

1164d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

Yeah, it's just a gimmick, makes no sense at all.

@Neonridr No I wasn't expecting it because I knew it wasn't ND's goal to spend massive amounts of money on that project. But I sure didn't bother playing it. I have a backlog hundreds of games strong, so I'm not interested in replaying something I've already played. If it had been a true remake, sure, I would have been curious. But I have no idea how they would change it. TLOU and Dead Space have in common to be very modern games in my opinion. Have gaming design trend...

PS4 version already runs at 60 fps so the PS5's won't be a game changer
