And compared to other vids this one looked even less like a SSB game compared to the bits we've only been able to see before (not to say that it still doesn't look like a SSB clone).

I don't mind snipers camping from waaaay back only if sniping is actually challenging in the game. Most games these days don't have the sniper's breath and lens glare effect. They also don't make moving the crosshairs slow enough for sniper rifles. Hell, in some games it's possible to run and gun with a sniper rife due to that very reason.

I'm pretty sure that people would rather have a more original game, but given that SSB is a good game, Battle Royale being similar to SSB is not really a big deal as we know that the SSB gameplay is good especially if you have played other mash ups that are similar to SSB like Jump Stars before. Jump Stars is very similar to SSB, but that didn't stop it from being a great and fun game.
Besides we need to wait for more details to see how Battle Royale tries to differen...

Overshadowed? I don't think so. I'm pretty sure most will buy both. Look at BF3 and Skyrim last year. Both released near CoD and still sold solid numbers.
Yeah it is kind of sad that it took a "clone" for you to consider picking up a PS3, but at least if you do indeed decide to pick one up you can finally get to try out those games that looked like a lot of fun now and at a much cheaper price.
