simple. People don't buy Nintendo system for graphics. They buy them for the exclusives games they have.
Nintendo shouldn't be worrying about competing.
No company should when releasing a new game system. The first priority is to maintain a great starting library of games, audience, install base and support for the system before worry about trying to compete.

It my favorite game on 3DS. There is a demo for both games that let you carry over items and other bonuses.
But in terms of playing Bravely Second you need to play Bravely Default since the story will be confusing if you start with Second.

Most likely. Considering they started planning Bravely Third in 2015. Around the time Nintendo confirmed the NX existence. So they wouldn't want to miss the chance. And with the NX to be revealed soon what better way to announce it.
No. It all falls on it's 1st Year Library and must have at least 70% exclusives. That will help. Especially in Japan.
