I can barely land at the easy airports :p
@Chevallier Source on Xbox rejecting LBP? The LBP developers shipped a game with Sony prior to LBP so it seems unlikely they ran back to Xbox to pitch LBP after shipping a game with Sony. But I’d love to be proven wrong so please do share your source.
“It was announced on 2 March 2010 that SCE had purchased Media Molecule for an undisclosed sum”
Sounds like they threw money at them - and if they had enough money to throw at Zenimax they likely would’ve tr...
So September will be a terrible PS+ month then… people are going to be p*ssed.
Totally different situation.
If a game is free, you still cause a cost for the platform holder (MS/Sony/Nintendo) by using their services.
Cross play actually reduces the load on platform services so why would you pay for it?
I did like Sandstorm back in the early 2000s :p
But I’ve been lucky enough to try 2042 out and I like it, it feels closer to 2 and 3 than 4/1/V.
The gamer and dev side of me both think that’s a terrible idea.
There’s no increased service operational cost on Sony/MS to do cross play - actually it reduces service load because you typically have to roll your own MP services instead of using PSN/XBL.
So there’s really no reason to charge for it.
I was never a fan of 4, but 2042 should be good.
“ They got insomniac for 269 million theyre worth over 300 million. ”
Clearly this is incorrect. No amount of “good relationship” means one party gives the other a >= 71 million dollar discount (The actual purchase was 229 mil, not 269). That’s almost 33% discount lol.
When you sell your company, you sell above the market value.
Also, source on Zenimax only being worth 5.5bn?
Thank god you don’t work in the games industry. Imagine wanting to charge players for cross-play.
That being said, you’d probably be an instant hire at EA or Activision lol.
This is factually incorrect. Sony is the only company charging for cross-play scenarios like the above.
Also, obviously if others were charging too, he would’ve simply deflected and said “we are in line with other consoles/platforms” not “we treat every publisher the same”.
@neutralgamer1992 Source?
I’ve worked on multiple cross play games and have never once heard of MS charging for it.
It’s simple. If you’re logging into Xbox live, you are in the Xbox ecosystem. Microsoft counts XBL MAU.
@Thundercat I still consider PS games on PC to be PlayStation ecosystem exclusives as long as you’re signing into PS services or giving money to Sony.
So did they get all of the above studios for free? Otherwise they threw money at them.
This isn’t hard to understand.
I enjoyed it. E3 will always have a place in my heart and E3 is always full of hype every year.
Not exclusive to Series X, but is exclusive to Xbox. Xbox is an ecosystem.
I must've missed the part where they 'nurtured' and didn't 'throw money at' Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Bend Studio, Guerrilla, Sucker Punch, Media Molecule, Evolution (RIP), Zipper (RIP) etc. And I probably missed a few more too.
Not charging for it would be a good starting point.
Square gets $$$ from MS
MS gets $$$ from GP subs
Game ends up getting an active user base
Seems like a win all-round.
“Nice so it can be done with old PS4 games”
There is literally nothing negative in his comment… my god.
My only hope is that if this is SH, it’s old school style and not first person - that ship has sailed, RE has done it twice already.
Bring back SH1-2-3 style gameplay!
