It was an interesting video you should watch it. Basically, kojima built a tech demo to pitch to Sony on konami's dime. He built pt to prove it would be successful before he bounced. Sony agreed to publish it behind konami's back. When they found out they dishonored him but it was his plan all along to split from them. More tidbits in the video that show the connections made with del toro and reedus suggesting a spiritual successor to pt as his first game.

That's a major factor though. Being a director is a completely different role. I'm one of the few who liked uncharted 2's pacing more. It wasn't because of him is all I'm saying. The last of us pacing in u4 is because of him because he was the director this time.
