Starcraft 2 pushed graphical boundaries. I could run Diablo 3 beta max on my 2yr old Vaio laptop at about 50fps, while my pc struggles on SC2 to maintain even 30fps on ultra settings with several settings turned off/low...
You might not notice it or care, but the recent Halo games have been sub-720p @ ~25fps. KillZone was at 720p and 30fps. Most games coming out will still look amazing, but when you play it, it will feel the same.
2004: "Why would Nintendo announce their successor if Twilight Princess is coming out?" 2005: "Why would Sony release their successor when God of War 2 is coming out?"
bunch of other examples, but i'm too lazy to look up.
N4G does have some stubborn people. Remember when the Atari came out? Many people thought it was an overpriced piece of tech that is only good for showing off; they thought the machines in arcades were here to stay. Same with motion controls like the Wii.
Oh, and you can't say that the Wii U controller wasn't at least a little bit inspired by one of the Apple devices.
I remember in 2010 before the VGAs he hinted at a sequel to highly anticipated game. Everybody thought it was the next GTA game, but it was Skyrim. So sometimes they aren't disappointments.
I can only imagine a small handful of hardcore titles - if they even count as hardcore titles. Seriously, Ninty should just stick to the casuals and the nostalgic.

Really? Because most of the consoles released before 1997 had only a few months. Oh and the Xbox 360 launched like half a year after announcement.
Yeah that Skyrim tease was such a disappointment...............

Which part? That Sony supposedly blackmailed Gamespot, or that Gamespot didn't cave into the pressure?
Apparently, Kid Icarus is on-par with Skyrim.

tThe disagrees only validate my point.
N4G is so full of Sony fanboys, that saying anything even remotely negative about anything related to Sony is garner a storm of hate. Good bye N4G.
Alan Wake didn't look anywhere close to even 'good'. sub-720p at 30fps with dips at any time there was some quick movements...
Well they should be building an engine that displays true 1080p (and not that upscaled garbage) as well as locking at 60fps.
Hopefully it will be a demo for a next-gen console by Microsoft or Sony at this coming E3. Then followed by a 2013 release.
Well, I guess I should expect to be hopping ontop of 1-story buildings and tents..............
If Valve keeps using that Source Engine, then I doubt it. Anyways, HL has never been about the graphics, but about presentation.
