@Drekken:

You are the one mis-informed.

Xbox 360 was the first console with unified memory and eDRAM for additional speed, when nobody believed in it and got fantastic results.

Xbox One continues that trend with unified memory and ESRAM for extra bandwidth.

The 3GB RAM reserved for the OS can be shrunk over time, but think of the possibilities for features.

Remember how PS3 had reserved only 48MB RAM (as oppo...

I was on the opposite end, when the policy was announced I hesitated to accept it.

However, as I learned about the game sharing, resell (which I never do) and benefits of connnected console, I was sold.

In fact, now I think all this whining brought us back into the stone age physical media. For my music, and movies I go strictly digital already and never looked back.

My library of media is available almost everywhere I go, and I don't hav...

If Xbox One still had game sharing, you could have both just shared it instead of stuck with discs.

I'm getting CoD and probably Ryse. Of course I can't wait for Quantum Break, and Titanfall.

Also interrested in Watchdogs, Destiny and a few others.

You can bicker about exclusiveness, and I will just enjoy the games. Exclusives, multiplatform or whatever!

All I care about is a system I like and games I enjoy. I have never in my life looked at a game and said, it ain't exclusive, I ain't buying it i.e. exclusiveness has never been a factor in my buying decision.

What is not to understand the thought process?

Xbox One with the Kinect as a bundle probably means loss or almost no profit. If you bought it to work it on a PC, you aren't really an Xbox customer.

With all the research MS put in to make one of the most advanced cameras around, the cost is cheap. You actually get two Kinect, one early release and a final product. So the actual cost is probably at cost for MS.

Sony won on the basis that they took us back to stone age physical media.

If anything the future was delayed unfortunately. It definitely didn't help with MS unclear PR.

It is kind of sad really, that instead of being excited for new things, we get people excited about the status quo: physical discs and mostly controller based gaming.

What happened to new experiences? Oculus rift looks exciting and I would love to pair that with Kinect!

@Sitdown:

Not to mention how Sony didn't patch their servers (a very common security practice) and got hacked loosing 70 million peoples data.

Reverent:

gakai cloud and cloud computing is very different. The former is very specific and narrow, and requires for the most part specialized hardware.

It is likely costly, and the resource isn't easily found, but rather has to be invested by Sony.

It is strictly used to render video game feed and stream it over the internet.

Cloud computing on the other hand is the act of offloading computations. This is best done with...

Nope, that will come on PS5.

My point was that other providers do hot maintenance on a live system, not take the service down for hours on end frequently.

Wasn't it obvious?

@moparful99 :

Nope, Sony bought it so they can charge you a fee to play games. It is most definitely not going to be free.

There is a reason why OnLive almost went bankrupt.

You are correct though, Gakai isn't cloud computing. It is specialized hardware to stream locally rendered games over the internet. Seems like most people don't understand that distinction.

I don't understand why PSN has to consistently go down for maintenaince?

Ryse has been confirmed by Eurogamer to run on Xbox One hardware (like many other games):

"Microsoft/Crytek's game has evolved away from the Kinect-based Xbox 360 game we saw at E3 2011, reappearing this year as a God of War-style hack and slash game. Our hands-on involves a short five minute demo that is once again categorically running on Xbox One hardware."

It's not just servers, it is servers infrastructure and exposing that to be used for gaming.

There aren't many other companies that can do this.

There is a reason why Gakai will initially only be available in the US. Sony probably doesn't have the infrastructure elsewhere like MS does with Azure.

Also, streaming games is completely different than offloading game calculations.

Also, what happens if there is no lead...

Except basically all laptops and smart phones comes with a camera that isn't detachable. All you can do is trust that it is off.

No real difference there!

Quite different than what the title might suggest. Down voted, moved on.

@Kobe357:

The point was that goodwill didn't net MS anything, yet give them a bad reputation that continues with Xbox One.

It seems the non-existant real indie gamers (the ones sitting at home, not the established smaller companies) aren't really supported by Sony.

Still MS is the only one that still offers it. I would hardly call any of the other approaches indie friendly.
