@Somebody:
"so why is MS slamming the door on the rest of the pack its new roadmap?"
Like anything, money is the source of everything. If MS can't profit, they shut it down. It is up to indie-developers to show it is profitable.
Case in point, MS is the only one really catering to indie developers on console, yet they everybody complains. I don't hear any complaints about the PS3/PS Vita minis. You know why? Cause Sony doesn...
You know how big a game is going to be when fans can't even wait to see a trailer. They don't care about a natural disaster hitting you and all they want is the god dang trailer!!! :0
Dang you R*!
Have people really forgotten that MS was and is the only one that really supports indie development. Who else gives you access to publish games on a console for $100?
Heck, MS even gives it away free to students.
Try that from Sony or Nintendo?
The reason why indie-games is obscure is for the same reason neither Nintendo nor Sony allows it on their platform. Keyword quality games. There aren't exactly many jewels in the pile of shit. ...
I agree. Activision doesn't do anything consumer hostile, like EA does.
EA, the company that:
* single handedly introduced online passes to the industry
* (used to before everyone complained) can delete your digital games at will
* bans you from you game, if you get banned on their online forum if EA doesn't like what you say
The list goes on and on. If there is a company that doesn't deserve the hate, it is Activision. They just make rehashes, and killed a few franchies, but they aren't customer hosti...
@Dante112:
There is only snag though in your argument. MS typically sells lots more Xbox 360s ever holiday than Sony does PS3.
Last holiday Xbox 360 sold almost twice the number PS3. From the top of my head, I think MS sold 7+ million consoles.
This year, MS got a price cut going into the holidays, while Sony essentially raised the price. You do the math!
I know, it seems things hasn't improved at all.
Considering a cut of 10,000 jobs, you should save 10,000 * monthly salary * 3 months (for the quarther). That is easily $100 million plus per quarter, but now you lost productivity.
Cost cutting is good, but what is Sony doing to increase sales and demand for their products?
Off the shelf parts isn't necessarily the reason why a platform is easy to develop for. It is mainly two things:
a) the architecture
b) the tools (and by extension available information i.e. support)
MS proven this with their tools and support, where by they handle a lot of the difficult tasks for you and enable information sharing.
In the Nintendo and Sony era, it was pretty any man for themselves and console manufacture...
I don't about CoD killer, I think Halo 4 will compete pretty well. CoD biggest nightmare is Halo, and now they are direct competitors in similar time frame.
I think Halo 4 got enough in it to push forward!
@raytraceme:
Well, that is a little of a loose question, but in general no and in fact on the contrary since Hirai took over the stock has taken a further plunge.
Sony was the most prosperous from a "stock value" point of view in Feb 2000, when the entire tech industry was way overpriced. Since then, it has been a steady decline and that is why SNE brought in Stringer.
I think Stringer did a pretty good job, but the biggest downfall...
Apart from the obligatory bump in graphics fidelity and technology, I expect a leap in available services and features not related to gaming.
That is where the competition will heat up. That said, I see no reason why gaming still wouldn't be a big part of next generation.
RAM increase will be significant, but let's face it. To support all these other services, a lot of the memory will be reserved for the OS/system just like the Wii U.
I agree!
I thought Sony was all done with this weird creepy advertisement a long time ago. Why revisit this cr@p?
Is this the return of Sony with a Japanese leader this time? If it is, it seems nothing has changed and Sony just reverted right back to pre-Stringer!
Hopefully I'm just assuming too much based on too little.
Personally, I think there are plenty of games. What I hope for is quality games that really push the boundaries of what we already do and don't do.
There is a over abundance of games being released, but not enough new experiences in general.
We are fortunate this generation to have been introduced to achievements, motion control gaming first Wii and then Kinect, upgradeability of OS in consoles and robust online gaming on consoles.
I wan...
I don't think Wii owners in general are awaiting the Wii U. They just play whatever they think is fun, has little loyalty to any one console (as they are probably even that educated in games) and marketing takes time to grab foothold since most of it is spread by word of mouth.
Kinect should do wonders for this by now, but we will see.
Personally, I just can't wait for Halo 4, especially after those stellar reviews being published for it!
Dang!
Now I can't wait!!!
Too bad I'm in a foreign country, and can't go to midnight opening or even have time to play my Xbox 360.
I have to settle for game news for about 10 mins a day and wishing I could play games.
@cgoodno:
You actually used up your bubbles. Dang! :)
In short, there are plenty of uses and because you don't see it in any current games, or because you are unable to imagine a scenario when you need it, doesn't mean somebody won't find a use for it.
"IMHO, it won't. It's information that can be displayed on the screen, and has been in many multiplayer FPSes. Dust 514 was the most recent game I've played that di...
@cgoodno:
"But, I've gamed on multiple screens for years and you know what I've never done? Shoved all my UI elements to one screen and the rest of the game on another and then looked back and forth."
Because you haven't done it, doesn't mean it doesn't make sense or isn't better.
"Having more information and having to take your eyes off of the TV or similar screen you are playing to view it is exactly t...
Really more than one disc was a big enough issue for you to choose one platform over another?
To me it is more what that platform offers. Sometimes it could be a preference for a controller, free online gaming or cross voice chat.
Mutliple disc sounds silly to me, but to each their own. :)
@cgoodno:
"I admit that improving how we can interact with them is a way. But, smart glass just isn't that way because it takes focus away from what you're playing just how watching a movie on another screen takes you focus away from the game. It's an option. A way to view what has been an overlay UI in the bottom left or right before but instead on a whole different screen."
Well, a lot of times the "whole different screen" is...
I agree. Why would anyone buy that?
I can't think of many willing to buy that. Unless you are really space constrained, most people would just opt for, I don't know a 32" LCD for less!!!
