Battlefield and the Bad Company franchise has never been a threat to Call of Duty and Modern Warfare. Infinity Ward products has always been of higher quality than DICE products and sales has been multiplied by three or four times.
Battlefield 3 is way too focused on graphics and if they make another fail launch like Bad Company 2, that will indeed "stir up on of the bitterest contentions we've on the internet since the launch of Gran Turismo 5".

Modern Warfare is a franchise based on city combat that is fast paced and easy to approach. You don't have overly advanced elements but a quite straigthforward set of weapons and equipment along with some perks to improve your performance.

I'm fine with this. As a first time product that looks this great, it's quite obvious they spent all their time available on singleplayer to create an awesome experience rather than a lackluster singleplayer with multiplayer and mod support.
