It's a noble idea and they have already put together 2 AAA teams in the recent past in The Coalition and The Initiative but there is nothing wrong with buying studios as well.
From a business point of view, you want a known entity. You want a team that is already familiar with each other and works well together. This way there's no getting to know each other training wheels section of game development.
I believe the reason for that is because Hitman is their most lucrative game and they were not given much choice but to continue making that.
With more funding and job security they'd be able to be more creative and take risks.
Also I don't think it's so terrible that they have only worked on Hitman for so long. Hitman is fantastic.
So ignorant. Keep believing what the movies tell you about Africa.
Also the whole point of XCloud is that you don't need a console/TV brainiac.
Smart phones are commonplace in a lot of African countries and in India.
@rain
You are looking at it the wrong way. A lot of African countries have electricity and infrastructure but no console market to speak of.
I have friends from other African countries who studied here in South Africa and they buy consoles and games here so they can ship them home and sell them there for a massive profit because for one reason or another consoles aren't sold in shops there.
But EVERYBODY has a phone! And internet! So while Microsoft ca...
I disagree. Whenever I think back on 3D era favourites I always picture them looking a lot better than they actually are.
Something like San Andreas on the PS2 always catches me off guard whenever I see it being played today because in my mind it looks so good.
I can't say the same about 2D era. In fact whenever I play something like Adventure Island my brain releases so many good time feels.
Xbox division didn't have a seat at the big table at Microsoft until very recently. It was always just a subdivision.
That was always the fundamental difference between Microsoft and Sony/Nintendo. Playstation has always been a tentpole at Sony and they may have even gone under without it so they had no choice but to invest heavily in games.
Same with Nintendo. I mean what else do they even do?
More studios means more time for each studio to produce games which means better quality games. It's not that difficult to understand unless you're a dolt.
Oh yeah, big bad Microsoft coming here to forcefully buy studios and give them jog security whilst also giving gamers what we've been asking for for years now, variety of games.
Maybe MS should have let the struggling studios continue to struggle and maybe even go under.
Don't be juvenile, there's nothing wrong with buying studios and also creating new ones like The Coalition and The Initiative.
Hotrod, if you are daft enough for me to have to say "I and millions like myself with the same LTE coverage will be fine" then I have no business chatting to you.
South African here. I have unlimited LTE of up to 150Mb/s and fibre of 20Mb/s which is double the recommend minimum xCloud speed. I pay $16 per month for my LTE.
We'll be just fine thanks.
Actually you are the one that is behaving like streaming is coming here to give away your choices! It is not.
Streaming is just another way that people can enjoy gaming and it is not coming to replace anything so I don't get why anyone is up in arms about it.
